Should go nice with those new MacBook Airs right? .

tizen-samsung-redwood-fixed-croppedWe have caught bits of hearsay that Samsung might be advancing a couple of apparatuses that run on the Tizen Os, and another emitted screenshot from one of Samsung's R&d offices shows a "Test Center Check-In" sheet that records two Samsung Tizen gadgets, which have been reputed therefore far as the Redwood and the Melius. Both apparatuses are accepted to be starting later this Spring or early fall.

WWDC 2013: 50 billion iOS apps downloaded, $10 billion paid to developers

apple-moneyapple as dependably began its Wwdc 2013 keynote with some intriguing numbers about the association and about the App Store. The enormous number in the not so distant future was far up in the billions: ios clients have downloaded 50 billion applications from the App Store. Also, there are over 900,000 applications in the App Store, and 375,000 of them are upgraded for the ipad.

How are those artists getting along? Pretty well all in all terms. Fruit has paid out what added up to $10 billion to artists since the App Store opened. $5 billion was paid out simply in the final year distant from everyone else. Consistent with Apple, that is three times more than all different stages consolidated. The point when taking a gander at application download offer by income, ios takes 74 percent, Android takes 20 percent, and the group classification of "different" takes 6 percent.

Some other eminent details: there are 575 million enlisted itunes accounts the greater part of which have charge card informative content included. That is up from the 400 million advertised at Wwdc 2012. Additionally, a year ago, there were 650,000 applications in the App Store contrasted with over 900,000 today.

These are really exceptional numbers in this way. Fruit does typically recover the most amazing ones for huge keynotes. Wwdc 2013 is just simply starting so stay tuned!

Use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) for 5 reasON

The Guardian recently revealed that a top secret government program was collecting metadata from Verizon as a way to link terrorists to each other. This collection is without oversight and does not target any particular individual. It also includes metadata of United States citizens call data. Then it was revealed that all the phone carriers in the United States were being monitored, as well as many of the top Internet companies. Regardless of whether or not the government is actually reading your data and listening to your phone calls (President Obama claims they are not), it is probably a good time to talk about different ways to secure your personal data online. A Virtual Private Network, or VPN, may be the right solution for many people who are privacy concerned.
VPN internet lock (stock photo)
VPNs are typically used to keep two different offices of the same company connected. Both offices can share files and resources securely. The connection is encrypted, making it next to impossible to see the data. VPNs have since expanded to cover remote users who may be using insecure connections, such as home connections and hotel networks. Here is a video describing basic VPN use.
There are many VPN services out there, such as LogMeIn’s Hamachi service and a service fromproXPN. Both services allow a user to setup a VPN account for free, but target two different types of users. Hamachi is designed to securely link multiple machines and networks together to share data. proXPN is designed to allow someone to securely access the Internet regardless of where they are. Here is a promotional video on proXPN.
While the average user who cares about security might not want to use Hamachi, they definitely want to use a service like proXPN. Here are five great reasons why you may want to use a VPN on both your mobile device and computer.

Encrypted Data Anywhere with a VPN

When a user connects to a bank website on a public wireless network, the connection to that server is often encrypted. If a hacker was sitting in the same coffee shop as the user, that person would not be able to see the banking data. But if that same user was sending an email, the hacker would be able to read that email and all of the contents, because email is not sent encrypted.
When using a VPN every bit of data that leaves the device is sent securely to a server somewhere else in the world. Upon leaving that server the data is decrypted (unless the user is accessing a secure site, like a bank) and sent on its way to the appropriate destination. When the data is returned from the destination, it is sent back the way it came, and is encrypted once it passes through the VPN server back to the user.
No, it does completely secure the data for the entire trip, but it can secure it through the most insecure parts of the trip. proXPN and other services even offer exit points in different countries. If the user has the exit point of London, but is in the United States, the United States government would not be able to decrypt the data even if it were to obtain it. The only way they could conceivably see what the user was doing is if the user was visiting a website in the United States and the government obtained the server information from them.

Be As Anonymous as You Want to Be with a VPN

Using a VPN improves your anonymity online substantially. The user connects to a server and the data is encrypted. If the Internet Service Provider of the user was to look at their logs, it would only show the destination as the VPN, and not where the person actually went online. The only way the government could see where the user went online would be to attempt to locate their access on the destination sites, or access the server logs of the VPN. If the VPN the user was connected to was out of the country, that would be virtually impossible.
If the user is a researcher searching a controversial topic, or a dissident looking to stay safe posting data, a VPN is a great way to do that.

Avoid Monitoring and Filtering with a VPN

Perhaps the user is an IT pro who does work in schools, but needs to be able to access Facebook. If the school’s monitoring software blocks Facebook, that would be a problem. With a VPN that is not an issue. Most VPNs bypass filtering and monitoring software.
Maybe the user is going to visit China or some location that actively monitors Internet traffic. A VPN would help prevent that from occurring.

Avoid the ISP “6 Strike” Rule with a VPN

Since VPNs are encrypted, and often pass through a server that is a bit of a distance away, the speeds may not be as good as a high-speed home connection. However, since the ISP is unable to see the content of the traffic, anything passing through the VPN would be unreadable by the ISP. This means if the user is using BitTorrent the ISP would not know, even with deep packet inspection.

Access Regional Content Anywhere with a VPN

For fans of television shows like Sherlock and Top Gear in the United States, they often have to wait months after the shows air in Great Britain before they are shown to American audiences. Maybe there is a show that is only shown somewhere else in the world and the user wants to be able to watch it. This overview that aired on Australlian television explains this is simple English.
For a user of a VPN like proXPN, the user can select London as the exit point. Now, that user’s connection appears to be originating from London, meaning that the BBC iPlayer is now freely available for that user to use.
The same would apply to various iTunes stores and other services that are regionally restricted.
A VPN is not a perfect solution to the problem of government spying, but it is a great start. Depending on the encryption level, even if the government (or other monitoring agency) were to get ahold of the data, it would take them years to access it. For the average user who does not want to be monitored, this level of protection is excellent. It is unlikely the government would spend decades trying to read the data of someone who is not a suspect in some criminal enterprise. But for those concerned, they should be running a VPN.

Apple iMac to get refresh with Intel Haswell processors

Apple is expected to refresh its iMac range this month or next month, with its latest computers powered by Intel’s Haswell processors, according to KGI Securities.
imac
Ming-Chi Kuo, analyst at KGI Securities, predicts that shipments of iMacs plummeted from 1.75 million in the first quarter of this year to just 650,000 in the second quarter, partly due to seasonal shifts in demand, but also due to slowing demand after new iMac product shipments peaked at the beginning of the year.
Kuo believes that Apple will try to renew interest in its iMac computers with the launch of new models featuring Intel’s latest CPU technology.
Shipments of iMacs are expected to jump to 1.1 million in the third quarter, up 69 percent on the second quarter, largely thanks to improved seasonal demand. Total shipments for the year are forecast at 4.7 million, a 31 percent boost on 2012.
Apple may unveil the new range as soon as today, with its Worldwide Developers Conference happening at the moment, though it may also decide to keep the limelight for other rumoured products like the highly-anticipated iWatch.

Samsung Galaxy S5 to Sport Aluminium Body as a Result to Design 3.0 Direction

Samsung Galaxy S5In spite of the fact that the Samsung Galaxy S gadgets are the best pitching Android cell phones on the planet, its evident that Sammy still has some work to be finished both regarding outline and materials. Luckily, it was accounted for that the Samsung Galaxy S5 will be part of the association's new outline course called "Design 3.0," yet shouldn't we think about the materials utilized for the following gen leader?

There's most likely that the South Korea-based association will start the Samsung Galaxy S5 one year from now, the catch up of the recently mainstream Samsung Galaxy S4, a cell phone that was sold in 40 million duplicates in less than a month after its market presentation.

As you've likely recognized, the other huge players of the cell phone planet are attempting to make their terminals look as premium as would be prudent (see Htc One and Sony Xperia Z) utilizing materials like aluminium or glass for their cases. In an endeavor to figure out if Samsung is prepared to battle once more at its adversaries with premium-looking Samsung Galaxy S5, we extended our reception apparatuses and figured out how to figure out that the successor of the Samsung Galaxy S4 will have an aluminium form. The qualified information was given to us by a trusted source near the South Korean telephone creator, who needed to remain unknown.

After a move such as this, Samsung can chomp an even bigger piece of its primary rival's piece of the overall industry, having the capacity to lure the Apple clients who were picking the iphone for the searches and for premium materials utilized for its development.

While we don't have the smallest thought what Design 3.0 truly means regarding looks, we can now affirm that Samsung will begin to utilize aluminium for its high-end cell phones, and the Samsung Galaxy S5 will be the first to accept this medicine. Obviously, an aluminium figure accompanies a few costs. Above all else, the unibody development (which is pretty in vogue around the cell phone creators) will no more extended permit the clients to evacuate the electric cell of the Samsung Galaxy S5, an angle that was exceedingly acknowledged by the clients who voyage a mess.

A while back, a Samsung official said that the association mulls over how rapidly and proficiently it can fabricate the item, realizing that it will send a high volume, which was the excuse for why the Samsung Galaxy S cell phones so far had a plastic figure. Since the Galaxy S leads are getting more well known every year, the Samsung Galaxy S5 interest is relied upon to outmatch the one of its forerunner, so would it be advisable for us to need stock deficiencies in the event that its made of aluminium?

At any rate, its a touch to promptly to estimate about the Samsung Galaxy S5, on the grounds that there's just about a year until the cell phones sees the light of day, so a great deal of things can change meanwhile.

What are you needing from the Samsung Galaxy S5? Any estimates on its specialized specs? Shouldn't we think about some extraordinary characteristics you'd like? It would be ideal if you impart your musings in the remarks segment underneath.

BubblePod clockwork turntable lets your phone capture 360-degree images

In Insert Coin, we look at an exciting new tech project that requires funding before it can hit production. If you'd like to pitch a project, please send us a tipwith "Insert Coin" as the subject line.

The problem with capturing panoramic stills with your phone is that you need to keep a steady motion when panning around, but we all know that only a robot can perform such feat perfectly. That's why this little BubblePod caught our attention. The device is essentially a mini clockwork turntable so no battery is required -- just wind it up, slip an iOS, Android or BB10 device into the silicone grip, fire up the BubblePix app and hit the BubblePod's release button for a steady 40-second rewind.
The sample panoramic shots (or "bubbles") we saw have almost no visible stitching, and the app can simultaneously record an audio clip to capture the atmosphere as well. Better yet, in addition to its rubberized base, the BubblePod is also built with a universal tripod mount plus a wine bottle insert mount!
This Kickstarter project will offer a unit if you pledge a minimum of £15 (about $23) for the limited early bird offer or £20 (about $31) later on, plus £5 (about $8) to ship outside the UK. Do check out the demo video after the break, and feel free to grab yourself a BubblePod before funding ends on July 9th.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Active Preview

Introduction:

IP67 – such cryptic code is attached to phones, tablets, and all kinds of electronic gadgets made to withstand damage caused by the elements. In particular, this rating indicates that a given device is dust-tight and can survive a dunk into water for at least 30 minutes at a depth down to 1 meter.

One such device is the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, which we are now giving a detailed preview. In many ways, the smartphone is very similar to the Galaxy S4 flagship – it has a 5-inch 1080p screen, a quad-core Snapdragon 600 chip, 2GB of RAM, 2600mAh battery, and Android 4.2 with TouchWiz sprinkles on top is in charge of all this. Characteristics like these are enough to place the S4 Active right into the high-end category. However, it has more than a few peculiarities of its own – peculiarities that truly make this smartphone stand out of the crowd. Read on in case we've sparked your interest already!

Design:

This is clearly not your typical Samsung Galaxy smartphone – no glossiness, no faux metallic elements, no useless bling can be found anywhere on it. Instead, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active has a manly, adventurous appearance. Its body is made of matte plastic, which is far more durable than glass or metal and should not scratch easily. What we like the most about it, however, is that there's a fine texture covering the smartphone's surface, providing excellent grip. Thanks to that design feature of the handset, combined with its ergonomic shape, one can easily get a comfortable hold on it even with gloves on.

Our Samsung Galaxy S4 Active has a bright orange back plate. This could potentially make it easier to see in case the phone is dropped underwater or in tall grass. Those who prefer more conservative colors will have grey and blue as options to pick from.

Compared to one of its rivals – the Sony Xperia Z, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active is noticeably thicker, but still well within the acceptable range. It is also very close to Sony's flagship in terms of size and weight. Single-handed use of the Galaxy S4 Active may be a challenge, depending on the size of the user's hands, although we were mostly comfortable with its proportions.

How to Redeem Gift Card Balances for Cash

I've never comprehended blessing cards. Aside from being extremely limited as to where you can utilize them, they're likewise a bizarre blessing, particularly provided that you don't shop at that specific store. Some even have termination dates and administration expenses.

The greatest issue I have with blessing cards is the remaining parity.

After begrudgingly purchasing something, I'll changelessly wind up with some odd little sum, such as $1.79, which isn't exactly enough to purchase whatever else might be available. That, in turn, makes me use a greater amount of my own hard earned money, since I'm more than likely set to yet an option that is that expenses more than what's left on the card.

As it assembles, may not be all awful however. Provided that you live in California (or various chivalrous states), it may be conceivable to get a money discount for the sum of your blessing cards with level adjusts.

Getting Cash Back for Gift Cards in California

Out of all the 50 states, California has the best strategy noticing blessing card money outs. As per California Civil Code Section 1749.45, for any blessing card with a money worth of less than ten dollars ($10), California retailers are obliged to discount this offset to you.

Since there weren't numerous shopper assurance rights as to blessing cards, Congress passed the Credit Card Accountability Responsibility and Disclosure Act in 2009. While the law did numerous things like forbid short termination dates and limit dormancy expenses, it likewise permitted states to manage and make procurements when recovering blessing cards for money.

Since I live in California and had never become aware of this law, I called the California Department of Consumer Affairs, who truly have the Legal Guide (S-11) observing blessing cards on their site, to study more. I conversed with a couple of individuals, yet nobody knew anything, so they coordinated me to the Attorney General's office. I rang the Ag, however they knew almost no about the items and recently steered me to the S-11 aide.

Much obliged concerning that fellows.

Since they weren't truly much help, I chose to call several major retailers to check whether they pondered the law. In any case I called was Starbucks, where I conversed with an illustrative who stunningly knew the law quickly off the bat and was fit to not just portray it in part, yet was equipped to depict other state laws observing blessing card discounts.

After I hung up, I called Best Buy and the first individual I conversed with was a deals partner. He wasn't attentive to the law, so I asked to converse with his boss, who surely pondered the law and let me know that any blessing card $9.99 and easier could be traded in for spendable dough.

Getting Cash Back for Gift Cards in Other States

While we might have it great here in the Golden State, in terms of different states and their laws noticing blessing card discounts, they aren't exactly as merciful as California.

Colorado, Maine, and New Jersey permit blessing card discounts, however the parity must be under $5.

In Rhode Island and Vermont the equalization must be under $1.

Massachusetts permits discounts, however the parity must be under $5 and 90% or a greater amount of the card's unique worth needs to have been utilized

Montana permits discounts for cards with an equalization under $5, however the card's unique worth must be higher than that.

Washington discounts blessing cards with equalizations under $5, however you need to buy something that dips your card aggregate beneath $5.

At long last, Oregon does offer discounts, however the blessing card equalize must be under $5 after a buy (and various stipulations).

Whatever remains of the states either have arrangements that don't permit money discounts, or they simply don't have any state blessing card discount laws whatsoever. In the event that you need to look at what your state laws are, this table has more informative content.

Along these lines, the following time you appropriate a blessing card, don't become insane. You may simply have the ability to transform some of it into money.

Huawei teases a pic and a video of the 6.2mm Ascend P6 ahead of launch

Huawei teases a pic and a video of the 6.2mm Ascend P6 ahead of launch, touts attention to detail

It's hardly a secret by now that Huawei will release one of the thinnest smartphones out there, if not the thinnest, come its London event next week. At the rumored 6.2mm thin, and partly metal chassis, theAscend P6 should indeed be a sight to behold, provided that Huawei got all the other components right.

We recently reviewed the Ascend Mate, and the verdict was that it's the best phone Huawei has made so far, with nary a weak spot, but at 6.1" it is not for everybody, so if the ultra-thin Ascend P6 has the same build quality, it has every chance to become a success.

It seems that Huawei is listening, and the CEO Richard Yu came up with the following first impressions from his everyday usage of the Ascend P6:

You know, after using the P6 more and more, I've begun to notice how nice the side keys were designed and how good it felt to press them. Their positioning along the edge felt just right and natural. They aren't protruding out too much so you don't have to worry about the wrong button being pushed when it's in your pocket, nor are they too flat that they're uncomfortable to feel. We were able to find that "sweet spot."

Bring it on, we'd say, and he also posted a teaser picture of the device to hint exactly how thin and metal-clad it is. Shallow tactile feedback of keys on super-thin handsets is a widespread issue, so if Huawei gave this attention to detail to the other aspects of the phone experience with the P6, we are optimistic. The company also issued a teaser video detailing the phone's trip from Beijing to London, with the obligatory for any youth-oriented phone parkour elements these days.
