Jawfish Makes Real-time Multiplayer Between iOS & Android Possible

New technology from Jawfish Games will let up to hundreds of thousands of mobile and web gamers play in tournaments online in real-time.
Jawfish Games was founded by Phil Gordon, a former professional poker player and World Tour champion. Speaking to Polygon, Gordon explained that Jawfish originally worked with Big Fish Games to make Match-Up! the first real-time multiplayer tournament game on iOS and Android devices. Now the company will use that technology for its own iOS, Android and Facebook games.
The first game to use the technology is called Jawfish Words, a multiplayer tournament word search game. Players can compete with other players across the globe in real-time in three objectives including high score, corners, longest word and diagonals. Jawfish Words is currently available on the Kindle Fire, but will come to other Android devices, iOS and Facebook next month.

Players will also see the same word search in each tournament regardless of the device they use.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini Price Still Missing, Despite Leaks

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini has leaked out again ahead of its arrival though the latest leak, a set of benchmarks that confirm its processor, doesn’t confirm the device’s biggest draw: Its price.
For several months now, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini has emerged as a complimentary device to the largest, very official Samsung Galaxy S4. In the past few weeks, we’ve seen numerous specifications emerge and we’ve even seen what is thought to be the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini itself emerge on camera for the world to see.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini is expected to launch in late June.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini is expected to launch in late June.
Leaked specifications have pointed to a 4.3-inch qHD display, which means less than HD resolution, an 8MP camera, and Samsung TouchWiz 2.0 running on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. It also appears to have a design that features a removable back for an extended battery and it should also come with a microSD card slot for expanded storage.
New alleged Galaxy S4 Mini benchmarks, discovered AllAboutSamsung, suggest the same and also point to a Snapdragon 400 dual-core processor on board, rather than one of the Exynos variety. It’s unclear why Samsung may have shifted away from a Exynos processor but it appears that the Snapdragon 400, the same processor found in the Galaxy Mega 6.3.

iPhone owners spend 55% more time on their phone than Android users

New smartphone usage data shows that iPhone owners spend an additional 26 minutes per day on Apple's handset more than the average Android device user.
Experian

While an Android smartphone owner spends an average of 49 minutes per day on their device, iPhone owners exceed that amount by 55 percent, according to usage data published by Experian this week. The average iPhone owner instead spends an hour and 15 minutes on their handset.

In addition to spending more time on their iPhone, Apple device owners also use their smartphone in very different ways from Android owners. For example, Android users are more likely to spend their time making phone calls, while iPhones lead in texting, email, taking pictures, and social networking.

Android users, meanwhile, devote a greater share of their smartphone usage time to browsing the Web. Talking and texting remain the most popular uses of both iPhones and Android handsets, though iPhone users are evenly split between percentage of time talking and texting.

The data comes from Experian Marketing Services' Simmons Connect mobile and digital panel, which includes opt-in panelists who have responded to the Simmons National Consumer Study and National Hispanic Consumer Study.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Leaks Continue Well Ahead of Launch

While the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 likely won’t be out until later this year, it hasn’t stopped it from leaking out to the surface. And in the past couple of days, we’ve seen some of the most interesting leaks yet including an alleged sample photo taken with its rumored 13MP camera and now, a set of benchmarks that seem to point to several features including a 1.6GHz processor and the still unreleased Android 4.3 update.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is rumored to be coming out later on this year with all signs pointing to an arrival in September at the IFA conference in Berlin, Germany. September 6th is currently thought to be a possible launch date, meaning, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is likely still a ways off from hitting shelves around the world.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 may come with Android 4.3.

The lengthy wait until its arrival hasn’t stopped Samsung Galaxy Note 3 leaks, speculation and rumor with the device becoming one of the most heavily rumored device of the year. Most recently, we saw a potential photo taken with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 emerge, a photo that was seemingly taken by a device called the GT-N7200, a device that appears to have a 13MP camera.

Student Sues College for $1.3M After “C+” Grade

It may seem like an over-achieving student going too far—suing her college and professor for a huge sum of money and a grade change. But graduate student Megan Thode may just have a case for her lawsuit. Northampton County Judge Emil Giordana agrees there’s enough evidence to pursue the lawsuit she filed.
An otherwise straight-A student, Thode wanted to become a licensed therapist. She took a required class at Lehigh University in Bethlehem for her desired degree from an instructor who bumped her down a full letter grade—preventing her from taking the next class up to receive her degree—for allegedly failing to participate in class.
This is where the case becomes eerily similar to the 1999 movieElection with Reese Witherspoon and Matthew Broderick (A Type-A student played by Witherspoon will do anything to win the class presidency and her teacher played by Matthew Broderick uses his personal hatred toward her to make her lose).
Thode’s attorney, Richard Orloski, is arguing that the instructor, Amanda Eckhardt targeted Thode for being an outspoken advocate for gay marriage.
Eckhardt, who opposes gay marriage, testified that she stood by the grade and that Thode “failed to behave professionally, had outbursts in class, did not participate appropriately, was emotionally unstable and failed to heed a warning letter.”
Eckhardt also said on the record that she would never allow her personal views to influence her treatment of students. Giving Thode a total score of zero out of 25 points for class participation (when she attended every class and participated) is what is contradicting her statement.
Thode’s father, a longtime finance professor at Lehigh University, testified on his daughter’s behalf and commented on the absurdity of the participation score.
“I have never heard of a case, not just at Lehigh, where a student achieved a zero in class participation where they attended and participated in every class,” he said.
Megan Thode ended up getting her master’s degree in human development. She is suing for $1.3 million in lost earnings she feels she could have earned as a licensed therapist, and a grade change from the class she took from Eckhardt.
It will be interesting to see how the ruling of this case plays out. Judge Emil Giordano will make her ruling after testimony concludes.

This is How Apple Knows You Dropped Your iPhone in Water

If you have to take your iPhone into the Apple store for service you might be surprised to watch the Apple Genius pull apart your iPhone and take a look at a small dot on the inside.
This small sensor tells the Apple tech if your phone has been in contact with water, and it’s something that might change in the iPhone 5 thanks to a recent patent.
Right now it’s tough for you to check to see if your iPhone has a tripped water sensor because the indicator sits inside the phone near the SIM card slot. It’s the pink dot in the image below.
iPhone water Sensor dot
The pink sensor inside the iPhone indicates water damage and or exposure.
This phone was sent to SquareTrade for warranty service after coming into contact with water.
Apple depends on these sensors to determine if it will replace your broken iPhone under warranty or not. The standard Apple warranty does not cover water damage, but AppleCare+ and SquareTrade warranties do.
We spoke with Ty Shay, Chief Marketing Office at SquareTrade to learn more about water damaged iPhones and why Apple might make the switch to an external indicator.

The 8 People Who Have Already Seen the iPhone 5S

At least 8 people outside of Apple’s testing facility likely know what the iPhone 5S looks like. They also know what new iPhone 5S features Apple will announce later this year, and members of this select group may even already know what the iWatch looks like.
This special group is Apple’s board of directors, including former vice president Al Gore, and Disney President Robert A. Iger. According to a recent talk by Arthur D. Levinson, the current chairman of the board, the members of the board see new Apple products long before the public.
Speaking to the Stanford Graduate School of Business Levinson shared the board of director’s role in new products, as reported by Fortune:
New products are presented to the board between 6 to 18 months prior to launch. If presented early enough, some board insights are taken into account, and those on the board with expertise in certain product areas may have more influence
With this in mind, and a rumored iPhone 5S release this summer, it is very likely that Al Gore and other members of the board know if the iPhone 5S will arrive with multiple iPod touch color options, or if a fingerprint reader is built-in to the iPhone 5S.
iPhone 5S render
The iPhone 5S render from Martin Hajek shows what the iPhone 5S mighty look like.
Back in 2011 Al Gore let slip the iPhone release date of October while talking at the Discovery Invest Leadership Summit. With any luck Al Gore will let the iPhone 5S release date slip while speaking at SXSW next month.
Just don’t expect the board of directors to have any say in the iPhone 5S. Levinson said, “The board is not there to define product specs,” rather, “It’s there as a sounding board.”
As AppleInsider points out, Steve Jobs mentioned that one of the board members planned to use the iPod nano as a watch when the new model launched in 2010, and shortly after that a plethora of watch accessories came to market. If Apple really is working on an iWatch, the board might already be offering input. Board member Millard Drexel is the CEO of J. Crew, and appears to be the only board member with “expertise” in fashion and watches.
iPhone 5S rumors point to a slightly updated iPhone with the same basic design and the same 4-inch display. There are hints that Apple could offer iPod touch like color options and a fingerprint reader as well. The latest iPhone 5S release rumors point to a summer release, even though Apple launched the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 in the fall.
Additional rumors claim Apple has over 100 employees working on an Apple watch, which some are calling the iWatch. The video below highlights some of the rumored iWatch features.

No matter what Apple has planned for the next iPhone, an iWatch or the iPad lineup, these are the people who know what’s coming to Apple Stores in 2013.

iOS 7 Concept Designs: Welcome To The Future Of The iPhone

Recently, we rounded up the latest rumours about the new iOS 7, showing you what to expect when it's released. Well now we're bringing some of the best iOS 7 features to life with our stunning concept designs. Created by our Art Director Philip Joyce and Motion Designer Denes Farkas, they wanted to offer a new vision for Apple, believing that its current designs have become stale, and so created this.
With that in mind, here's what you could look forward to with the brand new iOS 7. Welcome to the future of the iPhone.

New Look Apps

There has been a lot of discussion around how apps will be displayed on the new OS. We'd like to see improvements to native apps on the iPhone, stripped of their gloss and sheen. While it’s now easy to think of Apple’s aesthetic as clean, bold and white, we forget how much it has integrated colour into its products and advertising (take the coloured iMacs and rainbow coloured iPod ads, not to mention the invites for next month's WWDC.).
The content and visuals of calendar and camera remain front and centre, bringing up certain features only when you need them.

A New Lock Screen

The current lock screen on the iPhone is pretty uninspiring, just bringing up your background photo and date/time. This improves upon the current experience, ensuring a more visually pleasing experience.

The Music Experience

While there hasn't been much discussion around a redesign of the music experience on iOS 7, here's what we think it could look like.

Apps: From Old To New

We do know that the new iOS 7 design is likely to be a lot 'flatter' and that app icons will lose their rounded edge.

Customisable Home Screen

Since Apple introduced app folders on the iPhone in 2010, there's been very little change to the home screen. People are crying out for more customisation, and here's what we think they should be given.

iOS 7 Design Details Allegedly Leak

In just a little over two weeks Apple will take the stage to show off the future of iOS, which undoubtedly includes Jony Ive’s re-designed iOS 7.
The new iOS 7 software has been in the news for months now as the man known for Apple’s iconic hardware is reportedly changing the look of the iPhone and iPad software to better fit his tastes.
Early iOS 7 leaks pointed at a flatter look with less gloss and a major overhaul of the interface and core apps that cuts out the leather and felt.
ios 7 logoToday we can share more details on iOS 7 thanks to a 9to5Mac sources who are reportedly familiar with the new looks of iOS 7.
9to5Mac has a very good track record when it comes to iOS and iPhone rumors, so much of what we are sharing below could appear on stage on June 10th when Apple is likely to announce iOS 7.
That said, the software design is reportedly in flux, so descriptions of iOS 7 features and designs could still change as the teams prepare an iOS 7 beta for release soon after the WWDC 2013 keynote.

Black and White Beats Leather and Felt

As with any remodeling project, look for Ive to push out familiar textures and finishes in exchange for something newer and more modern. According to 9t05Mac’s sources iOS 7 will push out leather, felt and linen in the system and in core apps in favor of black and white elements. Sources reportedly call the new version of iOS,
“black, white, and flat all over.”
In addition to a system overhaul, the system apps will likely share a similar look. Ive is reportedly concerned that a user could be confused by the varying looks for each of Apple’s core apps.
The home screen will reportedly be more flat, with less gloss and shine and we could see new logos for core Apple apps that match the new iOS 7 design.
Many of the stock apps are said to lose their real-world looks. Notes will reportedly feature a white background instead of the yellow legal paper look, and other apps may switch to white backgrounds as well. The video below is an iOS 7 concept that shows SimplyZesty’s take on what iOS 7 could look like.

Best New iPhone and iPad Games For May 2013

Following the announcement of the Xbox Oneand the upcoming reveal of the PlayStation 4 at E3 home game consoles are dominating the games conversation at the moment, but there are still some great games coming out for the iPhone and iPad.
The games in the App Store might not have the recognition of a new Call of Duty game, but that doesn’t make them any less fun. Here’s a collection of five great recent games for the iPhone and iPad. The games range from quick-hit Facebook-integrated games to hardcore strategy games. We promise none of the games have emotional cut scenes that feature the death of motion-captured dogs.

Tetris Blitz

The only social game on this list, Tetris Blitz takes the blitz formula Pop Cap created for Bejeweled and applies it to Tetris. The goal of Tetris Blitz is to clear as many points and clear as many lines as possible in two minutes. The game uses the same familiar Tetris pieces everyone knows, but adds powerups to the mix, adding a new dimension to the classic puzzle game.
Tetris Blitz is free-to-play and as such it will ask for money for coins to purchase powerups and ask players to link the game to their Facebook account. Like Bejeweled Blitz, however, the game is fun enough to make those things not be too much of a problem.
Tetris Blitz is available now for the iPhone and iPad for free.

Poker Night 2

Poker Night 2
The latest game in Telltale Games’ series of poker games, Poker Night 2 is, simply, a game about playing poker. The difference, however, is who else sits at the table. Poker Night 2 lets players play Texas or Omaha Hold ‘Em against Brock Samson from The Venture Bros., Claptrap from Borderlands, Ash from Evil Dead and Sam from the classic Sam & Max adventure games (with Max sitting on the sidelines). To further add to the character lineup, GlaDOS from Portal and Portal 2 is the dealer.

For hardcore poker players Poker Night 2 may be a little simple, but that doesn’t make the game any less fun. Most of the fun of Poker Night 2 is in listening to the banter between the characters from such disparate fictional universes.
Poker Night 2 is available now for the iPhone and iPad for $4.99.

Microsoft, Google to Work on New YouTube App for Windows Phone

Windows Phone users can expect a new YouTube application jointly built by Microsoft and Google at some point in the future.
That’s according to an announcement made by both companies late last week. The agreement comes two weeks after Google sent Microsoft a cease and desist letter demanding that the company remove its third-party YouTube client from the Windows Phone Store, claiming that it violated YouTube’s Terms of Service.
YouTube-3[1]
At the time, Google cited two issues as being part of their core objection to application. First, the application didn’t force users to look at or watch video advertisements in between video clips provided by the service. The application also allowed users to download videos for storage offline, another big violation for any YouTube application that is officially sanctioned by the service.
AllAboutMicrosoft received a statement from both companies confirming their new partnership saying,

Galaxy Note 3 Processor Rumors Take a Turn

All along, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has been rumored to have a Exynos 5 Octa octo-core processor, straight from Samsung, on board. However, the Galaxy Note 3 processor rumors have taken a bit of a turn as new information suggests that the company may be opting to put a Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor inside the next-generation phablet.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has emerged in a number of rumors over the past few months with whispers and leaks pointing to a number of high-end features including a larger 5.99-inch to 6-inch display, 13MP camera with OIS and 3x optical zoom and a design that is heavily based on the Samsung Galaxy S4′s new plastic design.

Rumors have also all, unanimously, placed the Exynos 5 Octa octo-core processor inside the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. The Exynos 5 Octa is the processor that is inside some versions of the Galaxy S4 and it’s a processor that offers eight cores, only four of which are used at the same time. The other Galaxy S4 devices use Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor.

Why the Samsung Galaxy S4 Micro SD Card is Useless

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is a great smartphone, but after a week I only have 3.5GB of storage left and dumbed down Micro SD card support on Android highlights the missing 32GB and 64GB Galaxy S4 models.
Currently the 16GB Samsung Galaxy S4 is theonly model available for purchase from U.S. carriers, and several confirmed it will be the only model they offer. Some sources claim a Samsung Supply chain issue is behind the problem, but carriers are quick to point out that users can rely on a Micro SD card and the Cloud instead of the internal storage, but that’s not completely true.

There are limitations to what users can place on a Micro SD card and using the Cloud will push data usage up, which could force customers to spend $10 to $20 more a month.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 Micro SD card is worthless for apps, purchased movies and most music.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 Micro SD card is worthless for apps, purchased movies and most music.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the inclusion of a Micro SD card to store media and USB OTG support makes it possible to plug a USB drive into the Samsung Galaxy S4 when I need even more, but this doesn’t solve the problem of limited internal storage.
Google is focused on pushing consumers towards internal storage with changes in the ability to move apps to the SD card in Android 4.2 and in the design decisions of the Nexus 4, which only offers internal storage.
After using the Samsung Galaxy S4 for a week, and only downloading some of the apps I traditionally use, I am left with only 3.5GB of storage left on my 16GB Galaxy S4. That’s after a week of use, and forcing 1080P HD video and my photos onto an SD card.
Currently the biggest data hogs, after Samsung’s implementation of Android, are games, Google Play movie purchases and a few other apps. I’m afraid to download all the games I’ve purchased and to store any Google Play Music on the phone.

Fastest Smartphone Ever Launches Thursday, It’s Not the Galaxy S4

A phone that is being dubbed the “Fastest Smartphone Ever” will be launching this Thursday, March 14th. However, it won’t be theSamsung Galaxy S4, a device that will also be launching on March 14th. Instead, it will be XOLO that will be announcing a new Intel-powered smartphone that will evidently be the fastest smartphone ever in Goa, India on Thursday.

Most eyes will be on the Radio City Music Hall in New York City where Samsung will be hosting an Unpacked event on March 14th. The company is widely believed to be announcing the new Samsung Galaxy S4, a device that has been rumored since 2012 and will be replacing the Samsung Galaxy S3, a device that has sold over 40 million units worldwide.
XOLO is trying to steal attention away from the Galaxy S4.
XOLO is trying to steal attention away from the Galaxy S4.
And while a majority of consumers will likely have their eyes on that event, another company hopes to steal some of the Galaxy S4′s thunder next week on March 14th.
XOLO has sent out media invites, according to Tech2, for an event in Goa, India to show off a new Intel smartphone that it’s calling the “Fastest Smartphone Ever.” The company does not specify what the invite is for but the company’s homepage is teasing something called Mission ‘X’, complete with a countdown to the launch event.
The company also says that the “speed barrier is all set to be shattered. Fasten your seatbelts and get ready for Mission X. 4 days to take off.”
Maybe proclaiming the death of Android in early 2013 is a bit outlandish, but the Android landscape has changed dramatically since HTC had announced the very first Android smartphone, the HTC G1, in October 2008, and the platform will continue to evolve drastically in years to come.
In a few years, I speculate that Android as we know it–not the OS variants and the way the UI looks–will be drastically different, and Google’s vision of Android may become secondary to the many disparate builds curated by Android’s licensees.

Born of a Common Enemy

urlWhen Android was introduced, it was a geeky OS that offered competition to the simplistic language of iOS. It was edgy, nerdy, and offered promise. If iOS, with its growing market share and rapid consumer uptake was the Windows equivalent in mobile, Android definitely was a geeky mobile Linux build, and there’s nothing wrong with that. It was aimed at fighting the dominance of Apple’s iPhone and iOS platform.
When Apple was the common enemy, prosumer users of Android often shunned gimmicks that were introduced by smartphone manufacturers. Consumers appreciated the appeal of the HTC Sense UI to make Android more aesthetically pleasing while pro-users despised Samsung’s TouchWiz UI, marking it a bloated blasphemy to Google’s vision.
However, those days are long gone. Android grew up with its own maturing design language that had evolved over the years. And a new star rose in Android’s circle in the form of Samsung, one that is powerful enough to battle Apple head-on.

The Trojan Horse Within

While there is still a lot of attention on the very public battle between Samsung and Apple as the two companies fight over patents and money in courtrooms around the world, there is a more subtle battle that is happening from within Android. With the rise of Samsung, Google and other Android handset-makers are on edge.
urlRather than shunning TouchWiz, consumers are now overwhelmingly choosing the Samsung experience over other UI overlays on Samsung. From the beloved Galaxy Note phablet, which many had predicted would flop due to its sheer size and what was once thought of as a gimmicky S-Pen, users are looking to Samsung for innovation.
This has pushed the platform to be even more fragmented. Motorola, now under Google’s control, is attempting to keep neutral grounds on the user experience by staying as true to the Android vision as possible. HTC is choosing design and simplified software with the new iteration of HTC Sense on the HTC One. And LG is focused on software innovation to keep pace and keep ahead of Samsung: from eye tracking technologies to maximizing the use of sensors to make its phones smarter.
Rather than battling Apple, these Android manufacturers are now battling each other–regardless of how useful these innovations are, how much of a gimmick they are viewed as, or how much value they’ll be in the end to end-users–to try to steal Samsung’s crown. The enemy has moved from outside to inside the Android camp, with Samsung acting like a Trojan horse for Google to handle. And all these players are offering their own versions of Android to combat each other.

Fragmentation Doesn’t Matter

For prosumers, fragmentation is a big deal as it means that the latest innovation from Google may not make it to their phones of choice, but consumers do not really care about fragmentation. For them, the HTC One provides the best audio experience and low light imaging capabilities in a simple, elegant zero-gap design while the Samsung Galaxy S4 offers a variety of sensors to track their activities throughout the day so they don’t have to think about it. Fragmentation is good, for the average consumers, as it offers them choice and surely one of these devices on the market will fit their needs. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter which Android OS version their device runs as long as their devices perform.
urlAnd sure enough, with the launch of the Galaxy S3, people are asking for the Samsung experience. The Galaxy S3 shows that Samsung has matured into its own, with an elegant nature-based UI and design, software innovations on top of Android, and an experience that was primarily Samsung, and Android a secondary function. This is quite the drastic shift from a couple of years ago when tech pundits declared Samsung’s tile interface to look ‘cartoonish’ and its experience slow and buggy.
And Samsung isn’t the only one creating its own experience. Even more drastic Android make-overs come from Amazon and Barnes & Noble with the Kindle Fire and Nook tablets. With those devices, no trace of Android remains and even Google’s Play Store has been replaced with their own proprietor’s proprietary digital storefronts.
And the latest to the pack may be Facebook, which may make its Android invasion with a custom-made phone from HTC to focus on social media streams, and perhaps leverage the Facebook marketplace.

iPhone 5S: Apple Rumored to Replace Home Button With Sapphire Crystal Fingerprint Reader

Apple is rumored to be replacing the physical home button on the next iPhone, widely believed to be called the iPhone 5S, with a Sapphire crystal capacitive touch button thathides a fingerprint sensor. This will essentially be the first time that Apple has moved away from having a physical home button since the iPhone originally debuted in 2007. The new capacitive touch home button will help Apple create a more reliable iPhone model that will hold up to wear and tear better than the physical button that exists on all previous iPhone models.
One common complaint of the iPhone is that over time, the home button may fail to register a press. Over time, the hardware will wear out. With a capacitive touch button, there are no moving parts so the risk of failure is slimmer. Also, as Apple will be employing Sapphire crystal, which is the second hardest material–only diamond exceeds the strength of Sapphire–the material will help protect the capacitive surface as well as the underlying fingerprint reader.
This change was reported on Cult of Mac, which says that Taiwanese publication TechNews had spoken to Apple’s supply chain.

HTC One Makeover Rumored

The HTC One, which is currently only available in black or white, will apparently be getting a makeover at some point in the future as a new rumor suggests that the device will be getting not one, but two new colors at some point down the road.
Since it arrived earlier this year, we have known about a possible red HTC One, a device that emerged on HTC’s own website around the time the HTC One launched. And although HTC denied a future launch, it’s pretty hard to imagine that the company accidentally put a fake render of a red HTC One on its website. Instead, it’s likely coming to shelves in the future, the question is when.
The red HTC One could be joined by a blue HTC One.
The red HTC One could be joined by a blue HTC One.
More recently, the red HTC One popped up at an online retailer though the device has still not yet made it to shelves. The retailer then took down the listing.  According to a new report from Pocket-lint though, the red HTC One is not only still coming but it will be joined by another color.

Reports: Boot to Desktop, Start Button on the way in Windows 8.1

Not only will Microsoft return the Start Button to the taskbar in its forthcoming update toWindows 8, Windows 8.1, the company will also let users boot directly into the Desktop interface.
The changes may be seen in the preview version of Windows 8.1 next month at Microsoft’s BUILD conference, according to All About Microsoft. They will also include other features and UI tweaks that are designed to address the concerns of users that don’t enjoy Windows 8’s Metro designed interface.

These changes will reportedly include a way to allow users to forego the Live Tiles in today’s Start Screen for a view that only displays the currently installed applications on the machine whenever they navigate to the Start Screen.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3: New Launch Dates Emerge

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has several times been pegged for arrival during the month of September, however, a new report suggests that Samsung could actually launch it in either July or August, much earlier than has been expected.
All along, signs have pointed to a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 launch in September, at IFA 2013 in Berlin, Germany. The event is the same place that Samsung has announced the previous two Galaxy Note models and is, as of right now, the most likely candidate for an Episode 2 of Samsung’s Unpacked launch event series.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 could arrive as early as July, according to a new report.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 could arrive as early as July, according to a new report.
However, a new report from Digitimes suggests that Samsung might be planning to launch the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 as soon as July or August, August of course being the same month that Samsung launched last year’s Samsung Galaxy Note 2. The publication has a mixed track record, but on many occasions, has been correct so it’s hard to ignore what are now two new launch dates in July and August. No specific date is given.
As we saw with the Samsung Galaxy S4, initial launch rumors aren’t always correct, so it’s entirely possible that we could see the Galaxy Note 3 arrive in a different month, apart from IFA 2013. We also saw Samsung release the Samsung Galaxy S4 earlier than the Galaxy S3, so it’s entirely possible that we could see it do the same with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
Despite the new dates, IFA 2013 should still be considered the frontrunner.
Despite the new dates, IFA 2013 should still be considered the frontrunner.
Rumors in regards to the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 have been heating up recently with whispers suggesting that Samsung is planning to release a phablet with a Samsung Galaxy S4 design, 13MP camera, Exynos 5 Octa processor and/or a Snapdragon 800 processor, and a larger 5.99-inch to 6-inch display with 1080p resolution.
The software is still a mystery though consumers should expect it to arrive with the latest version of Android to go along with some new, Samsung-made software features. Just what those features might be, and if they pertain to the Galaxy Note’s unique S Pen, are unclear at this time.
