New mockups claim to show ‘iPhone 5S’ and ‘iPhone 5C’ designs

Vietnamese website Tinhte, which has a solid track record of getting its hands on pre-release Apple products and accurate mock ups, today posted what it claims are mock ups of two next-generation iPhones. One is the full-fledged “iPhone 5S” upgrade, while the other claims to show the much rumored low-cost “iPhone 5C” that we’ve been hearing a lot about recently. It’s worth noting that Tinhte says the source of the images, Vietnamese accessory supplier PhukienGiare, also supplied the publication with accurate pre-release mock ups of the iPad mini leading up to its launch.
For the iPhone 5S, the design of the mock up appears to be largely the same as the current iPhone 5. Most rumors seem to agree with that much, and the site notes its report from earlier this year that claimed the device will pack in a new 12-megapixel camera. The mock up also shows the dual LED flash that is rumored to make an appearance on the device.
The second mock up shows what the site is referring to the “iPhone 5C“, and shows the all-plastic design that we’ve seen several times in other alleged leaks. The site notes that the Lightning connector looks slightly smaller on the mock up, but it’s unsure if this is just on the mock up or if Apple is experimenting with tweaked connector designs. (The iPhone in the images with the leather skin is an iPhone 5 for comparison).
Earlier this week photographs leaked showing the iPad mini-like design for the next-generation 9.7-inch iPad that we posted of photos of back in January.

Shipments of smartphones priced under $200 expected to soar between now and 2018

With low-priced handsets like the Nokia Lumia 520 and its T-Mobile branded twin (the Nokia Lumia 521) selling out in the U.S. and attracting huge demand globally, even Apple has seen the light and is expected to introduce the low-cost Apple iPhone 5C possibly as soon as September. But there is a big difference between a phone like the Lumia 520 and the rumored iPhone 5C. The former sells lock, stock and barrel for less than $150 while analysts expect the low-cost Apple iPhone to carry a price tag in the range of $300 to $400.

According to ABI Research, it is going to be those smartphones priced at less than $200 that will see an incredible growth rate between now and 2018. For this year, ABI sees 238 million sub-$200 smartphones shipping. By 2018, that number is expected to rise to 758 million units. Led by MediaTek's lower priced silicon, manufacturers in China can quench the demand for cheap smartphones by offering dual-core and even quad-core Android models at amazingly low prices, something that would have seemed unheard of just 12 months ago. In addition, these upstart manufacturers are willing to accept lower profit margins in return for a larger share of the market.

According to ABI Research, these sub-$200 smartphones will soon account for 44% of all smartphones shipped. Consumers in developed markets are also coming around to the conclusion that there is great value in a low-priced model like the Nokia Lumia 520 that delivers many of the same features found on Nokia's higher priced models.

Apple iPhone 5S camera to arrive with F2.0 aperture, new home key design losing the square box

Apple iPhone 5S camera to arrive with F2.0 aperture, new home key design losing the square box
A Japanese Apple-centric blog that has leaked quite a few correct predictions on future iPhones and iPads, has gotten a hold on a source that claims the camera of the iPhone 5S will still be 8 MP in resolution, but come with a hearty F2.0 aperture, like on the HTC One. This would undoubtedly equip it better for the fight against all the low-light heroes that are pouring left and right from the Android and Windows Phone camps.

The sources also confirm that the "premium" iPhone 5S will sport the new A7 chip, and come in three color options, losing the iconic black this time - dark grey, white and that limited champagne gold one we saw not long ago. A changed home key is also corroborated, with the addition that this time the rectangular box that we had drawn on all iPhone convex home buttons so far, will be gone with the fingerprint sensor winds.

As for the "budget" iPhone 5C, the sources reiterate a polycarbonate/fiberglass fusion for the chassis, with an end result that seems rather glossy, as you can see in the leaked high-res pictures of the green version. The source also confirmed that iPhone 5S and 5C will indeed be the retail names of the two devices, but we'll know for sure when Apple finally unveils these two.

Suspicious BBM Android app back in Google Play, don't download

There is an official BlackBerry Messenger application coming soon to Android, but this recently published app called BBM isn't it. In fact, we don't think that this suspicious-looking piece of software would let you connect to the BlackBerry Messenger network at all. Allegedly, it works by downloading a BBM client in APK form, which then has to be installed manually by the user. Then the client would let the user send messages to specific BBM pins. Somewhat unsurprisingly, the software does not function, which is why it has collected tons of 1-star reviews, submitted by some of the folks who paid $1.49 to download it.

Needless to say, this app must be avoided. Actually, it shouldn't be on the Play Store at all, and we can only guess what kind of malicious code this self-proclaimed BBM application may contain. If you're impatient about getting BlackBerry Messenger on your Android smartphone, just wait until the official client's release. We'll let you know as soon at it is out.

HTC One Max “non-final” press image leaks

An image from ol’-reliable, @evleaks, shows us what has been termed “non-final artwork” of the upcoming HTC One Max, aka HTC T6.

True to form, the design language is familiar and there is not much to see here. Remembering that it is not “final,” sharp eyes will notice the lack of Beats Audio branding on the back. However, we are not alarmed by that.

No other information has leaked with the image, so we have nothing outside of the rumored specifications that we have already shared, 5.9-inch full HD screen, UltraPixel camera, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage with microSD card support, a large 3,300mAh battery and a QualcommSnapdragon 800 CPU kicking along at 2.3GHz.

Pricing and availability are still anyone’s guess too, though we have been seeing late September as its expected debut.

iPhone 5S: Dual LED flash again confirmed by a spare part

iPhone-5S-Double Flash
The rumor suggests that the iPhone 5S will be equipped with a fingerprint reader has not been confirmed by any physical evidence whatsoever. In contrast, the one that heralds a few weeks ago that this model will be equipped with a dual LED flash is confirmed each day a little more as the possible launch of the future replacement of the iPhone 5 approach. As proof, a new component which flows from the low side of China is in turn confirm this rumor ...
After photos of a shell on the back of which a large enough hole to leave the field open to two diodes had been cut and those of a digital camera disconnected from its flash , a lot of tabs supposedly designed to be fixed on the upper part of the housing of the iPhone 5S stimulus now persistent rumor.
As you can see from the pictures above, a hole whose size is in every way identical to that of the hull unveiled in late June by our colleagues at MacRumors was cut on these tabs. Hole whose size suggests once again that the iPhone 5S will indeed be equipped with a dual LED flash.
In short, a new evidence that should finally convince the skeptics who still had doubts about the credibility of this rumor ...
I take the passage of this article to report on those who do not follow me on Twitter I recently heard that the release of the iPhone 5S could result in production delays related to the integration of the sensor Biometric be postponed to early next year. The output of the iPhone 5C is meanwhile still scheduled for next September .

iPhone 5S Launch Date Pegged for September 10

A lot of tech observers wonder when Apple will pull back the veil on the next generation of the iPhone, possibly named the Apple iPhone 5S, and now we hear from a credible source that it could happen September 10. The report doesn’t address whether we’ll learn about other new Apple products, like an Apple iPad 5, iPad mini 2 or new MacBook Pro models.
The report comes from AllThingsD, which has a history of serving as a leak farm for Apple. The site reported that Apple will announce an iPhone 5S and possibly a lower cost iPhone available in many colors, will come on the second Tuesday of next month.
The alleged iPhone 5S logic board is slightly smaller than the iPhone 5 logic board.

iPhone 5S Release Rumors

With the recent rumors that Apple’s board wants to see faster innovation, interested people may wonder if that will happen during this event. Apple holds a large share of the smart phone market, but as Bloomberg reports, their worldwide percentage slipped despite high earnings from the phone.

A midrange iPhone could come with this iPhone refresh. A few will wonder if that will spur enough excitement to keep the board happy with Apple CEO Tim Cook? What other possible new featuresmight show up with the iPhone 5S, or iPhone 5G as one rumor claimed Apple would label their new phone.
Apple has a history of releasing in a dual-two-year cycle meaning they appeal to customers on two-year wireless contracts. iPhone 4 owners waited for two years for the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S owners likely waited two years for the new forthcoming iPhone 5S. To an iPhone 4S owner, this phone will likely feel like a big hardware upgrade since it sports a taller 4-inch screen along with other upgrades. iPhone 5 users already used to the taller 4-inch display won’t see much of a physical change other than the rumored features mentioned above and listed below. Instead, the iPhone 5 owner may appreciate the upgrade to iOS 7 with a colorful flat user interface and fewer skeuomorphic elements. Most of them will probably wait for an iPhone 6 in 2014.
Here’s a possible list of new features that could show up on the iPhone 5S:
  • Multiple colors in low-cost iPhone 5C
  • Fingerprint sensor on iPhone 5S
  • Champaign colored iPhone 5S
  • Camera with better sensor and dual LED flash
  • Faster Samsung made Apple A7 processor

iPad 5 Release Rumors

We might also see a new iPad 5 and iPad mini 2. If so here’s what we expect them to include:
The iPad 5 could offer a new design. Image via Martin Hajek.

With fewer iPad rumors it’s possible that we won’t see a new iPad at this September 10 announcement. We should get a date for Apple’s new cylindrical Mac Pro and an updated MacBook Pro. We might even learn of a MacBook Air with Retina Display, although that’s unlikely since the Air just got a refresh this summer.
