iOS 7 vs Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie

When you are choosing a phone or tablet, your choice will depend on which operating system you prefer. The main contenders are Google Android and Apple iOS. So with iOS 7 just around the corner and rumours of Key Lime Pie coming, which is the best?
Both Android and iOS are about to be updated big time and each have their own fans. Apple typically launches their new OS with a new version of the iPhone. iOS 5 came out with the Apple iPhone 4S in 2011 and iOS 6 came with the Apple iPhone 5 in 2012.
iOS 7 beta came out recently and it is expected to hit the public in the fall, with either the Apple iPhone 5S or the iPhone 6.
Rumours are going around that Key Lime Pie will also come out in the fall at the same time as Google announce the Nexus 5.
So what will be new in iOS 7? There are many features that have been revealed, which some people say are innovative and others no innovative. Major ones have already been show off on Android. People have said that iOS has become stale; however this has changed with the update to the UI.
Android 5 Key Lime Pie has focused on performance and this is smoother. The voice assistant has been improved upon and there is better back-up. There is better video chat and a lot more.
There will be loyalty between the two of course and the fight it set to a hard fought one

Samsung Galaxy S5 Is Wider, More Powerful & Water Resistant

The concept of the Samsung Galaxy S5 could be more down to earth than you would think at first glance, even more so if you have listened to any of the talk that has been going around. The concept came from 91mobiles and they designed the device to be wider with an edge to edge display.
When you look at the profile of the Samsung Galaxy S5 it does make you think about the HTC One. The back of the handset does remind you of the NEC and Pantech. The concept shows the device running Key Lime Pie and it comes with a battery of 3200mAh and is water and dust proof. It has the 2GHz Octa core processor along with 4GB of RAM and a display of 5.2 inches.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 has a metallic design, a camera of 16MP and 5MP on the front; it comes with gestures and control system. The handset has eye tracking too. The Samsung Galaxy S5 also comes with 128GB of internal storage.
What do you think about the handset? Would you like the real deal to be just like this?

Google Nexus 5 Could Feature 8-Core

LG have been very busy releasing new hardware and there are now rumours that they could be about to reveal an 8-core Odin processor with their next smartphones.
There were rumours going around before the announcement of the LG Optimus G Pro about the company finishing work on the 8-core processor and this will feature in the device if timing worked out. However the LG Optimus G Pro launched with a quad-core processor. Now all eyes are on the next Optimus device to get the Odin chipset.
The processor, which has the codename of Odin, will be put into mass production later this year. It is said that the chip will have the ARM big.LITTLE processor and this is what Samsung use in the Exynos 5 Octa processor. This is manufactured with the 28nm High K Metal Gate fabrication tech.
It will have support for full HD at 1920 x 1080 and it is has been said that it will not come with a baseband modem and that it might work with four Cortex A15 cores. These would deal with tasks that are heavy and the other four Cortex A7 cores would be used for the daily tasks.
At the moment we don’t know which device will get this processor but word on the street is that it will be the successor to the current LG Optimus G. The LG Optimus G is selling quite well currently and the same can be said about its Nexus variation, the LG Nexus 4, which is almost identical in terms of hardware.
If the LG Optimus G sequel does get the octa-core chipset, we may also be lucky enough to see the Google Nexus 5 get the same privilege, that is if LG gets a second shot at a pure Google phone just like Samsung did. Given that the LG Nexus 4 was unveiled in November, it is safe to assume the same will happen with the Google Nexus 5 this year. That would tie in with the chip production as well. We can dream can’t we?

Sony Xperia Z Ultra Vs Huawei Ascend Mate 6.1

A lot of phablets have landed in stores lately. A phablet means a handset with a larger display. By this definition, we have as many as half a dozen of phablets with displays bigger than 5 inches. But, here we are to take two of the three major phablets with displays larger than 6 inches for a comparison. Sure, you might have guessed the devices already; yes, they are Sony’s Xperia Z Ultra and Huawei’s Ascend Mate 6.1.
Xperia Z Ultra is now the world’s largest phablet or smartphone thanks to its massive 6.4-inch display. Also it is one of the most powerful handsets as it draws juice from the brand new Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chip, which is yet to make its way to much more gadgets. In these two aspects, its rival is not as much perfect as it is more an affordable phablet to the Xperia ZU.
Display: The Ascend Mate 6.1, as you can imagine from its name, is up with a 6.1-inch IPS+ display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels at 241-ppi. Meanwhile, the Xperia ZU sports a rather bigger 6.44-inch Triluminos LCD display. What makes the Xperia ZU different from the Mate 6.1 is its high-res FullHD display and advanced technologies including the X-Reality Engine, successor to Sony’s Mobile BRAVIA engine.
Processor: The Huawei machine is equipped with a 1.5GHz quad core CPU with Huawei’s K3V2 chipset inside, and the processor is powered by 2GB of RAM. It is when the Sony Xperia ZU is enhanced by a 2.2GHz quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, which also enjoys support from 2GB of RAM and an Adreno 330 graphical chipset.
Firmware, UI: Both the devices have native user interfaces incorporated to their Android versions. The Ascend Mate 6.1 has the older version of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, while the Xperia ZU has the most recent Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out of the box. When it comes to the UI, the smartphones respectively have Android their maker’s Emotion UI and Sony UI.
Camera: Both the phablets sport 8MP cameras with 1080p video recording capability. The Sony’s camera seems to be finer as it highlights its novel Exmor RS sensor. Sony thanks to its forte in camera making has included a high-end sensor that will let you capture high quality video and pics.
Connectivity: Recently all important phones come out with all essential connectivity options. In case of the Huawei phablet, you can see different connectivity features like microUSB, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi hotspot, DLNA and GPS. Almost the same is the case with the Xperia UZ that has microUSB, Bluetooth, NFC, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, 4G, GPS, MHL and more.
Battery: In terms of battery, the Ascend Mate is something excellent with its staggering 4050mAh battery, while the Xperia ZU has a less capable 3050mAh battery. In line with the heavy battery, the former one can definitely offer longer battery life than the latter one.
Size: In dimensions, the Ascend Mate 6.1 offers 163.5 x 85.7 x 9.9mm and it weighs at 198 grams. It is when the Xperia ZU measures at 179.4 x 92.2 x 6.5mm and it has a weight of 212 grams.
Price, Availability: The Xperia ZU has just been announced. It is yet to make its way to stores, which is slated for the fourth quarter of the year. We have no idea what price for the device will be turning up. Meanwhile, the Huawei Ascend Mate 6.1 has started to head to some markets for a price around $450, meaning that it might be cheaper than the Xperia ZU.

image of dual SIM HTC Butterfly S leaks

HTC recently launched the successor of its HTC Butterfly dubbed HTC Butterfly S. The Butterfly S was a relatively modest upgrade over its predecessor, but that was still enough to make it one of the most powerful smartphones available in the market. And according to the latest rumor by leakschina the smartphone might be getting a dual SIM version int the near future.

The dual SIM HTC Butterfly S is said to sport a 5-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The upcoming variant is rumored to feature a Snapdragon 600 chipset with a 1.9GHz quad-core Krait 300 processor along with 2 GB of RAM, just like the regular version. Furthermore, the device will have the same UltraPixel camera as on the HTC One.
The dual SIM HTC Butterfly S reportedly measures 144.5 x 70.5 x 10.9mm and weighs about 159g. The smartphone will run on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean but unfortunately, there is no word on the launch date and the global availability of the device.

LG Optimus L9 gets second shot at Android 4.1.2

LG Optimus L9 gets second shot at Android 4.1.2 update
The LG Optimus L9 has started receiving its second attempt at the Android 4.1.2 update. The first time, problems with the battery and Wi-Fi calling forced the update to get scratched before it could be completed. This time around, the P76920f software version is what is being sent out OTA.

Those who managed to get updated to Android 4.1.2 before the process was halted, will still receive the update. This will keep the device at Android 4.1.2, but will add new security features. Those whose LG Optimus L9 is still running Android 4.0.4 will finally get the Android 4.1.2 OS build which brings Project Butter for smooth scrolling, Google Now for information you need when you need it, and time saving actionable notifications.

The only way for owners of the phone to snare the update is through the OTA download. The update started getting sent out on Wednesday and is being sent out in waves which means that if you haven't received it yet, you will soon. If you can't wait for the OTA download, you can try to pull the update out by going to the home screen and  clicking on Menu > Settings > About device > System update. From there, follow the prompts.

Intel may launch internet TV service

Intel may launch TV service under OnCue name
Intel has been open with its plans to introduce an internet-based TV service, but many of the details remain up in the air -- not the least of which is the name. However,GigaOM has done sleuthing that suggests the offering could be called OnCue. A reported shell company for Intel, Sest, has registered trademarks that include the OnCue title, a logo and a "TV has come to its senses" slogan. Simultaneously, an employee at the marketing agency OMD claims to have worked on the OnCue launch. Intel isn't commenting on the apparent discoveries, but we wouldn't count on the trademarks arriving in tandem with a product. When the company is taking a very cautious approach to entering the internet TV field, there's a chance that the names will be all we ever see.

Jailbreakers beware

Apple has never been entirely keen on the idea of people hacking in to their smartphones, and here in 2013 its becoming apparent that developers of games for iOS devices aren’t finding the situation to be entirely positive either. What this week has turned up is the creators of Dues Ex: The Fall have included a code which, if your iPhone is jailbroken, will result in your complete inability to fire guns. And that’s important.
k-bigpic
When you’re playing a game like Dues Ex: The Fall, you’ll find it rather difficult to get anywhere without the firing of guns. This news comes from Kotaku where users have flocked to flip out over the situation due to their full purchase of the game and essentially complete inability to play it. This game was released this week for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
When one downloads The Fall for $6.99 USD on the Apple App Store, it will work completely fine if you’ve got a factory-fresh iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. If you’ve taken the time to jailbreak the device, on the other hand, you’ll be unable to play.
At the moment it’s not entirely clear why the developers behind the game do not warn users that they’re so very against the jailbreaking process that they’ll stop anyone who does it from playing their game. Jailbreaking is not illegal at the moment here in the USA, just warrantee-breaking. Game developers certainly – again, at the moment – appear to have the right to initiate a break like this, but we imagine the situation wont be around for long.
At least, not with no warning as we’re seeing here.
UPDATE: It would appear that Square Enix has been quick on the pistol with a response to this public relations mistake of a release. These words were provided by the developers to Penny Arcade Report:
“We have not been clear in our communication earlier this week when we launched Deus Ex: The Fall. We did not state clearly that the game would not support jailbroken devices and so we will be switching this off via an update, so that all the supported iOS devices will be able to play the game in the near future
We feel it is the right thing to do in this situation and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. No customer should be out of pocket when we were not clear from the start, so we’ll get the game updated as soon as possible so that everyone who wants to play Deus Ex: The Fall can do so regardless of whether their device is jailbroken or not.
As soon as this update is live we will communicate this via the Eidos Montreal Community channels” – Square Enix
This sort of situation has appeared with several other games in the recent past, notably Game Dev Tycoon which, having expected their game to be pirated immediately after having been released to the wild, added a bit of a break inside it.
game_dev_tycoon_pirate-580x386
As players played, they found their (pirated) game to be giving them massive amounts of bad sales reports due to in-game pirating. Irony at its best.

JVC BlackSapphire SL HDTV series screams flagship with stark appearance

The folks at JVC have revealed an imposingly simple looking line of televisions this week intent on making the world understand that they’re clear on consumer wishes for an absolute lack of bezel. The hero in this line is an LED-LCD TV with a 47-inch display ringing in at 1080p with Edge-lit technology. This machine is also internet ready with streaming services aplenty.
JVC_SL_series_610x407
The JVC BlackSapphire SL works with JVC I.C.E., that’s Internet Connected Experience, coming in with Netflix, SlingPlayer, Vudy, and Pandora right out of the box. This massive television works to out-do the slightly less expensive JVC SP (Sapphire) series with passive 3D abilities working with four pairs of glasses that come in the box.
This set is controlled with a “flippable” QWERTY remote control with a dedicated Netflix shortcut button. You’ll be able to connect with three HDMI inputs, USB media port, and a series of composite video inputs. For those users wishing to conserve power and desire only the audio abilities of this machine (however strange that may seem), there’s also a 3.5mm so-called “music port” for use with an Audio Only mode included with the setup.
This television series also comes in a 42-inch iteration, while both versions work with a 120Hz processing engine to back up their adaptive backlight abilities under the hood. The smaller television JVC SL42B-C will ring in at $799 USD while the larger JVC SL47B-C will cost you a cool $899.
Both televisions in this series will be coming in the summer of 2013, and the whole lot will be created with Taiwanese company Amtran. You’ll have a difficult time finding a series of televisions with a look that’s more daunting!

iPad mini 2 skipping retina again

If you’re waiting for a so-called “Retina” display on an iPad mini in the near future, you’ll be better off planning to wait it out for at least another season. While the iPad mini currently sits with the same display resolution as the iPad 2, the trend for best-of-the-best in all things display and specifications have suddenly proven to be topped out. While this isn’t the only indicator for the iPad mini staying with the display it’s got now, the trend has become rather apparent: the next waves of smartphones and tablets selling out of stores wont necessarily beat out the previous generation for high-end specs, they’ll be aimed at the everyman.
ipad-imac-5-SlashGear-580x386
Suggestions from Economic Daily News Report lead the pack this week with suggestion that the second-generation iPad mini will either be pushed back to 2014 for a full launch OR will be appearing with an incremental update – not quite a full second generation, that is. Almost like an iPad mini S, as it were.
While we’ve seen the casings from the iPad 5 matching up quite well along the edges with that of the current-generation iPad mini, the iPad mini itself has had no such leaks. Only suggestions of Retina or non-Retina from sources close to the matter, analysts, and factory floor enthusiasts.
ipad-ipadmini-3-14-SlashGear-ipad-mini-1-580x312
You’ll find a May 6th report from NPD DisplaySearch that suggests that the iPad mini with Retina display will be coming inside 2013, but without a boost to the machine’s processor. Similar reports suggest the opposite, with the processor (and perhaps the camera) getting a bump in an incremental update while the display would get its full-on retina upgrade in 2014.
Meanwhile the rear shell from the iPad mini 2 appeared to leak earlier this year and cannibalization continues.
The most recent update to iOS 7 – still in beta mode at the moment – suggests that the “x2″ mode included with all devices has been given a quality boost. This means that the applications made for smaller displays like the iPhone grow in size to meet the display they’re on, and with the iPad 2′s display size – it’s amount of pixels, that is – rolling strong with the iPad mini, the change will be welcome. Don’t be surprised if the iPad mini 2 continues to be called the iPad mini (without the 2) later this year, complete with upgrades to its insides, but not to its out.

Toshiba AT7-A 7″ Android tablet leaks with Jelly Bean

Toshiba has launched some tablets in recent times, including the Excite Write featured below. Now hints of another one in the works has surfaced: the AT7-A slate running Android Jelly Bean. Information about the tablet has cropped up in some benchmarks over at the GFXBench site, and although details are sparse at the moment, it does give us a few specs.
Taking a look at the benchmarks, we see that the Toshiba AT7-A is running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, and is likely featuring a 7-inch display based on the listed 1024 x 600 resolution. In addition, as far as specs go, it looks like inside we’ll find a 1.6GHz processor and ARM Mali-400 graphics. Unfortunately, there aren’t any other relevant details provided in the benchmarks.
Toshiba hasn’t said anything about the tablet one way or the other, and so while it would be nice to get a look at some more specs, we will have to wait for some more detailed leaks or an official announcement of the slate, whichever comes first. Thus far there’s no indication of when the AT7-A tablet might be released, nor how much consumers can expect to pay for it.
To get an idea of where Toshiba might go with the tablet, we can take a look at the Excite Pure, Pro, and Write tablets the company unveiled last month, each of which runs Android and features a 10.1-inch display. These tablets sport Tegra processors, were launched last month, and were priced at $299.99 (Pure), $499.99 (Pro), and $599.99 (Write).
The Excite Write tablet was launched with pen support, and featured such things as an 8-megapixel rear camera and 32GB of storage. Given the smaller screen size of the AT7-A, it isn’t a stretch to imagine the price will fall lower than these tablets, but that is yet to be seen.

BlackBerry A10 back cover leaks in images

we saw the BlackBerry A10′s specs leak alongside the BlackBerry 9720, the first of which is a reboot of the currently available Z10 handset. The following day, someone leaked an image of the front of the A10, as well as a screenshot of the system screen. Now the folks over at Tinh te have nabbed some pictures of the handset’s back cover.
3
There are four images of what is said to be the back of the BlackBerry A10, the rest of which you can see in the gallery below. This in addition to the leaked image of the front of the device, which was sent to the folks over at BGR and visible below. Combined, we get a good idea where BlackBerry is heading with its reboot of the A10, something it is reportedly aiming towards gaming and power.
According to BGR, which first leaked an image of the handset, this version is more refined and finished than the Z10 handset, with the entire handset being more rounded in nature than what you’ll find with some of the company’s other recent handsets. What we see in these images is in line with what was reported about the back of the device (with it being similar to the Q10), of which we’re now seeing it for the first time.
blackberry-a10-aristo-2-499x500
The specifications leak has the BlackBerry A10 pegged with a 5-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1280 x 720. Inside, users will reportedly find a dual-core processor and a separate graphics chip, which is something that deviates away from BlackBerry’s typical usage of integrated chips in its more recent smartphones. This is along with 2GB of RAM.
In the images from this leak, we see an AT&T logo on the back over of the device serving as a pretty strong hint that the handset will be cropping up the carrier in the future. That’s the extent of what we know about the handset right now, but at the rate of the A10 leaks, we’ll be keeping an eye out for more information as it surfaces.

Windows Phone Snapchat client Swapchat removed from Windows Phone Store

image
image
Hold on to your Swapchat installation folks, as it seems you will no longer be able to download the app from the Windows Phone Store.
SRC Apps have tweeted that they have been forced to remove the app from the Windows Phone Store due to a Copyright Complaint from Snapchat.
The listing for the app in the Windows Phone Store also now shows the app as no longer published and searching for it does not produce any results.
The app has been incredibly popular, with more than 1300 reviews for the free version.
As long as you do not uninstall the app or Snapchat does not change anything on their end the app will continue to work.
If there is any silver lining it may be that an official version is on the way, as SRC Apps alludes to by saying:
image
It is still however a very poor reward for our Windows Phone developers who have been working diligently to bring us access to the essential social apps when the actual owners of those networks have refused to serve our platform, one one wonders if they will continue to bother with this work when the rug can be pulled from under them any second.

How to Automatically Silence Your Samsung Galaxy Note 2 in a Set Location

Automating tasks on your Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is nothing new. Everything from adjusting screen brightness, to turning on the flashlight, to saving Snapchat pictures can be done automatically with the help of a few function-specific apps.
The only problem with task-specific apps is that you have to download a handful of them to get everything you want, which can quickly add up. Now, thanks to AutomateIt, you can clean up your app drawer on your Note 2 and create loads of custom tasks using just one app.

How to Create Automated Tasks with AutomateIt

AutomateIt from Android devs SmarterApps LTD is free on Google Play, and lets you create copious amounts of automated rules using a trigger and action.
With these triggers and actions, you can create as many automated rules as your heart desires, like making the orientation of the screen change when watching videos, turning on the speakerphone when receiving a call from your best friend, dimming your screen brightness when you hop inside your car, and much, much more.
Since there are so many triggers and actions to choose from, AutomateIt actually supplies you with a few preset rules, including a low battery warning, being silent at night, having max volume when headset is unplugged, and lowering volume when headset is plugged—just to name a few.

Example Task: How to Make Your Note 2 Silent in Specific Locations

Since there are so many different ways to go about creating an automated rule in AutomateIt, I'm going to cover one of my favorites from start to finish—silencing the Note 2 automatically when you arrive in certain locations—just so you get an idea of how the process works.

Step 1: Add a New Rule

To set up your own rule, tap on Add Rule on AutomateIt's homepage. If you're viewing the preset rules, you can also tap on the plus sign inside of a circle at the top right to create a new one.
Once you're in New Rule, you'll be asked to designate a trigger, action, and rule name. As an example, I'm going to set the trigger to be a location (entering it), with the action being setting the phone on silent mode.

Step 2: Set a Trigger

Under Trigger, I scrolled down and found Location Trigger. Tapping on that sends me to a page where I can modify the location, how large I want the location radius to be, and whether I want it to be triggered when I leave or arrive at the location.

Step 3: Set an Action

Since I want my Note 2 to automatically turn to silent when I enter that location, I'll set my Action to Set Sound Mode Action. This will give you a few options to choose from, but I want to my phone to be on silent, so I will select Silent (No vibrate).

Step 4: Name & Set Your Rule

Once I'm done with the trigger and action, I can go to Rule and name it. Since the location I chose is my work, I'll call it Work Silent. Now that my rule is set, you can see in the screenshot on the right that it has been triggered, since I am in the designated area.

More Automated Rules You Can Try Out

Like I mentioned before, since there are so many triggers and actions you can set up, AutomateIt gives a few preset rules to choose from. If you're not intimated by the amount rules you can create, check out some of these other triggers and actions that you can use. You can also check out rules that other people have created in the Rule Market.

Triggers

  • SMS (triggers on when a text is received)
  • Battery level (triggers on when a specific battery level is reached)
  • Bluetooth state (triggers on when Bluetooth is enabled/disabled)
  • Incoming/hang call (triggers on any call or from a specific contact)
  • Headset (triggers on when plugged or unplugged)
  • Location (triggers on when arriving/exiting a defined area)
  • External power (triggers on when connected/disconnected)
  • Screen (triggers on when display is on or off)
  • Wi-Fi (triggers on when Wi-Fi is enabled/disabled)
  • Time (triggers on during a specific timeframe)
  • GPS (triggers on when GPS is activated/deactivated or when it starts/stops looking for current location)
  • Dock state (triggers on when docked to car/desk)
  • Activity recognition (triggers on when it detects whether you're in a car, on a bicycle, walking, or standing still)

Actions

  • Notification (shows notification in Notification tray)
  • Play sound (plays selected sound)
  • Set sound mode (uses silent, vibrate, or normal modes)
