Version 2.0 of Battery is out!

When the first version of Battery landed in the Windows Phone marketplace, it instantly became a total hit. Step by step it conquered #4 in “best rated” and #9 in “top free” for “Tools & Productivity” category in USA. Today, 420 000 downloads and 14 000 ratingslater, version 2.0 is out!

Among other improvements and fixes, the new version of Battery introduces the long-awaited statistics feature (screenshots above). You can now see in a convenient way how your battery performs, what are your battery-draining habits and everything else you might want to analyse.

You can browse aggregated statistics by month, week or day. Charts are also available and for those of you who want all the information, raw log of all recorded battery events is also provided. Samsung is not making processors for iPhone 6

Samsung will not be manufacturing the chipsets in the iPhone 6, but will be back for future iPhones.

A report from the Korea Economic Daily, a Seoul-based paper, says that Samsung will not be manufacturing the processors for Apple’s upcoming iPhone 6 and will be manufacturing a low-cost ARM processor to make up for the loss of revenue.

As the developing world industrializes, its consumers are going to want smartphones and tablets; many in the developing world eschew a traditional PC for these devices. Low-cost processors will power these devices, and the next billion customers of smartphones and tablets will likely use a device powered by one of these processors.

The Korea Economic Daily says that the low cost processors Samsung intends to develop would likely have an integrated modem, which its current flagship Exynos chips nor its A-series chips have.

Manufacturing a low-cost processor with an integrated modem would put Samsing in direct competition with Qualcomm and up-and-comer MediaTek. MediaTek’s mobile processors have had considerable success in the low cost device market. At this year’s Computex, the company had a prominent showcase with dozens of devices powered by its chips on display.

Earlier, the Korea Economic Daily reported that Samsung will be manufacturing chips based on ARM’s A9 technology when it comes online.

Huawei intros MediaPad 7 Youth, yet another budget-conscious 7-inch tab with voice call support

We know that choice is good and the evolution of technology thrives on competition, but isn’t the 7-inch tablet market getting a little too crowded? Case in point, Huawei, whose MediaPad 7 Vogue has gone on sale less than a month ago and yet a rehash is already official.

This thing is called MediaPad 7 Youth and, regardless of what you may hear around some corners, it’s unlikely to sport a Full HD screen. Instead, it will probably “rock” an LCD panel with a sub-par 1,024 x 600 pixels resolution.

Capable of “1080p Full HD video playback functionality” (which is the statement that sent many on wrong paths), the Youth looks like it will have just one real ace up its sleeve – pricing. Then again, we’re yet to hear something official on that front, so it’s a little too early to try to estimate the slate’s hit potential.

What we do know is markets like China, the Middle East and Europe will be getting the 7-incher sometime in Q3 2013, which started 16 days ago and ends two and a half months from now. Yay for ambiguity, huh?

In terms of specs, there’s really nothing to write home about. The voice call support is kinda, sorta special, but are you honestly telling me you look forward to using a 7-incher as a phone?

Meanwhile, there’s an undetailed dual-core 1.6 GHz processor under the hood (is it 2011 again?), plus Android 4.1 Jelly Bean (why no 4.2?) and a 4,100 mAh battery. That’s right, no snarky comment about that last part, even though the ticker is 225 mAh tinier than Nexus 7’s.

On the design front, the MediaPad 7 Youth bears a striking resemblance with its recently unveiled “cousin”, but it does come with a premium aluminum-made unibody in tow, plus it’s not so chunky, weighing in at 350 grams and measuring 9.9 mm in thickness.

Bottom line, it’s all about pricing. Will Huawei sell this thing for $150, $170 tops? Kewl! Will the MediaPad 7 Youth go for 200 bucks or more? Forget about it!

All Samsung Galaxy Note 3 rumors in a row

There are more and more rumors about the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 the last few weeks. This smartphone / tablet is expected to be officially announced at the " Samsung Unpacked"event on September 4, which is two days before the IFA 2013 starts in Berlin.

The various rumors of this new top gear at a glance:

• Tuesday was the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 official certification in Indonesia, and previously the Note 3 already confirmed by the UAProf on the Samsung website.
• There are rumors that there are different versions of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 come with different processors for different regions, plus two models with different displays.
• The phablet is expected to and 5.7 inch full HD screen on it. The screens are probably in two versions: a Super AMOLED display and a Super LCD screen, both models come with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.
• The processor is probably a hardware component that may vary by region. The latest rumors are that the U.S. and European version of the Note 3 comes with a quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with a clock speed of 2.3 GHz. The other regions will probably get a Samsung Exynos 5420 processor.
• The device will come with 3GB RAM and you can choose between different amount of standard memory ranging from 16GB to 64GB.
• The camera is probably a 13 megapixel version and will be provided with a range of advanced features such as optical image stabilization.

Canonical to launch Ubuntu Edge smartphone next

Trademark filing report reveals Canonical's plans to release next Ubuntu for Mobile OS based smartphone dubbed as Ubuntu Edge.

Canonical had announced the Ubuntu Touch smartphone user interface for the Linux kernel based mobile operating system - Ubuntu for phones, in January this year. Now the company plans to introduce yet another Ubuntu mobile OS based smartphone, dubbed as Ubuntu Edge.

Phandroid spotted a trademark filing by Canonical for a device called Ubuntu Edge. In a way, it points at a future smartphone possibility.

Canonical had released the Ubuntu for phones test build of its mobile operating system based on Linux kernel to run on the popular Galaxy Nexus smartphone. Back in January, Canonical showed off the Ubuntu Touch, its mobile interface meant for touchscreen smartphones and tablets.

As per the Canonical's hardware requirements, the entry level Ubuntu smartphone should have 1GHz Cortex A9 microarchitecture based processor with 512 MB to 1 GB RAM. There should be minimum 4 GB on-board storage with capability to support micro SD card.

The high-end Ubuntu smartphone should have a quad-core ARM Cortex A9 architecture based processor with minimum 1 GB RAM and 32 GB storage space. There should be micro SD card support. Also there has to be capability to be convergent with the desktop platform.

As of now, it is unclear whether the Ubuntu Edge will be an entry level smartphone or high end smartphone. Canonical is expected to deliver the first Ubuntu phone sometime later this year.

BlackBerry A10 Slide specifications confirmed

The device has a big HD display and a 1.7 GHz processor.

Couple of days after The Mobile Indian had reported about BlackBerry A10 Aristo, CrackBerry Forums claims to have got official slides of the phone.

As per the slide, the phone is named as BlackBerry A10 Slide and not Aristo as reported earlier. Also, the leaked specifications point out an aluminum body and removable back cover.

According to the report, the BlackBerry 10 operating system based A10 Slide features a 5-inch Super AMOLED display with 720p HD resolution. There will be a dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor clocked at 1.7 GHz with a quad core graphics engine as well.

The BlackBerry A10 Slide would also feature 2 GB RAM, 16 GB of internal storage along with expandable storage slot. This smartphone will come with BlackBerry 10.2 OS version running on it. So far, no features of the BlackBerry 10.2 OS have been revealed. There will be an 8 megapixel auto focus camera at the back along with a 2 megapixel camera at the front and both of them will be capable of HD video recording.

Facebook to deny access to kids below 13 years

Facebook, which is struggling to remove adult content from the social network, will now display a disclaimer stating that children below the age of 13 years cannot open an account on it.

This move of Facebook came after a Delhi High Court bench of Acting Chief Justice B.D. Ahmed and Justice Vibhu Bakhru asked Facebook to not allow children under 13 years from opening an account, reported IANS.

Senior advocate, Parag Tripathi appearing for Facebook assured the court that the site "will upload the disclaimer on its home page that children 13 years cannot open the account".

As of now if you are under 13 year of age, you will not be allowed to open a Facebook account but there is no disclaimer about it on the home page. One will come to know about it when an under aged user tries to create an account and a message will be flashed that says "You are ineligible to register for Facebook".

Currently, Facebook has 78 million monthly active users in India and most of them access the site through mobile.

The pack also comes with bundles Internet data access as well with up to 3 GB of free usage. Post 3 GB, data will be charged at 30 paisa per MB to the users of the Plan 1299. Also post the limit of 3000 messages, users will be charged at Rs 1 for local and Rs 1.50 for national SMS, while international SMSes will be charged at Rs 5.00.

Commenting on this product offer, Ajit Chaturvedi, hub head, Tata Indicom (Delhi), said, "The move comes from a strategic intent of making the brand relevant for the high value customers. Tata Indicom in continuance with offering value for money offers and distinct approach has liberated the consumer from the conditions that used to limit an unlimited plan."
