E3 promotional material reveals Plants Vs Zombies: Garden Warfare

Plants Vs Zombies, the popular mega-hit that originated on mobile devices looks like it’s about to get another entry. An educated guess is that it will include gardens and some type of warfare, and probably zombies.

With E3 coming up in under 48 hours the anticipation is at an all time high. It’s not unusual for photos of the event being set up to appear on the internet as eager fans try to glean as much as they can before any official announcements. Gamekyo has published a picture taken of PopCap’s promotional material for E3 of what looks to be the next entry of Plants Vs Zombies.  Check out the picture below.

 The game has a lot to live up to so it will be interesting to see the what new ideas they’ll present to the world with this new instalment. E3 takes place on June 11th-13th and if it wasn’t clear already, expect PopCap to make their official announcement sometime then.

Crytek’s next-gen engine will predictably support the PS4

You’re probably reading the headline and thinking to yourself “duh”, and you should be thinking that because it was obvious.  The only difference now is that it’s 100% official.

Crytek prides themselves on having games that push the envelope when it comes to graphics. The way they accomplish this is using their latest internally developed engine going by the name of CryEngine 3.

Yes it was obvious that the engine would support the Playstation 4, especially considering the fact that the console has the highest specs compared to the Wii U and Xbox One. Regardless, it wasn’t until now that the company has announced official support. As for why it has taken so long, that’s anybody’s guess.

What makes the situation a little more weird is that they announced support for the Xbox One earlier despite the fact that the console was revealed months after the PS4. I’m not implying that there is a conspiracy theory here, but it’s certainly a bit odd. As for who will use this next engine.  It’s unknown how many developers plan to license it for their games but I have a feeling we might know of one or two come E3 next week.

Tekken Revolution announced by Namco [free to play]

With only two days left to E3, Namco has announced a whole new Tekken title that’s free to play.

The Tekken series has gone from strength to strength in the homes and the arcades but it looks like it is only going to get stronger with the announcement of Tekken Revolution. The new fighting game from Namco Bandai will feature classic characters such as Jin, Paul and Kazuya and will be free to play starting next week.

The game will also be PS3 exclusive and will be released on June 11th. The game was initially apart of a  GameSpot E3 preview, showing off some incredible games from heaps of third-party developers. The trailer for the fighting game shows off a few seconds of footage with familiar characters and stages punching the hell out of each other. The game going free-to-play could mean a new business model for Tekken fans, starting off the game a lá carte and having player purchase their favourite characters and outfits as the game progresses.

At the end of the new trailer, the video closes with a familiar Twitter handle, that of Katsuhiro Harada. Earlier this week, Harada was suspected to be missing but has since been found to be alive and well.  The truth is Harada had simply not been coming into work, but began tweeting fervently again on Wednesday and finally let the big news go today:

Emoto’s Water Experiment: The Power of Thoughts

Through the 1990′s,Dr. Masaru Emoto performed a series of experiments observing the physical effect of words, prayers, music and environment on the crystalline structure of water. Emoto hired photographers to take pictures of water after being exposed to the different variables and subsequently frozen so that they would form crystalline structures. The results were nothing short of remarkable..

After observing these miraculous results, Dr. Emoto went on to type out different words, both positive and negative in nature, and taped them to containers full of water. The results were as follows:

“You make me sick, I will kill you”           “Adolph Hitler”

 

“Thank you”                                                   “Love and Appreciation”

 

As you can tell, the water stamped with positive words is far more symmetrical and aesthetically pleasing than that stamped with dark, negative phrases. If you are reading this article on this particular website, you probably already knew that positive and negative thinking have a major impact on the surrounding environment. That concept is relatively easy to grasp, but this extremely tangible evidence of it is astounding. If the words and thoughts that come out of us have this effect on water crystals, it’s amazing to think of what kind of effect they have on the people and events that come into our lives.

Oh and by the way, the average human body is 60% water. Ponder that one a while…

Some may say that this could be the work of biased photographers or biased photo selection by Emoto himself. However, Emoto dispelled this accusation in an interview during which he stated:

“This is one of the more difficult areas to clarify. However, from continuing these experiments we have come to the conclusion that the water is reacting to the actual words. For example, for our trip to Europe we tried using the words “thank you” and “you fool” in German. The people on our team who took the actual photographs of the water crystals did not understand the German for “you fool”, and yet we were able to obtain exactly the same kind of results in the different crystal formations based on the words used.”

Once a certain vibration is introduced to the water, how long does the water “remember” that crystalline structure?

“This will be different depending on the original structure of the water itself. Tap water will lose its memory quickly. We refer to the crystalline structure of water as “clusters.” The smaller the clusters, the longer the water will retain its memory. If there is too much space between the clusters, other information could easily infiltrate this space, making it hard for the clusters to hold the integrity of the information. Other micro-organisms could also enter this space. A tight bonding structure is best for maintaining the integrity of information.”

What kind of words would create smaller clusters and what kind of words would create larger clusters?

“Slang words like “you fool” destroy clusters. You would not see any crystals in these cases. Negative phrases and words create large clusters or will not form clusters, and positive, beautiful words and phrases create small, tight clusters.”

Apple's WWDC app now updated, adds video support

How To Bring Back the Start Menu on Windows 8

When Microsoft first revealed that it would betaking out the Start Button and Start Menu inWindows 8 the response was loud. Either users wanted to hold onto the old and focus on using Desktop applications with the Start Button and Start Menu, or they were perfectly fine embracing the new, and learned how to use the new Start Screen.

Though Microsoft has made it clear that it’s heard feedback on both sides of the aisle and is ready to make concessions (most notably the return of the Start Button to its place on the taskbar) it hasn’t indicated that it will do anything of the sort when it comes to the Start Menu.

Instead, even after the Windows 8.1 update, users who want to avoid the Start Screen completely will still be in need of a way to make Windows do what they want. Thankfully, there are more than a few solutions out there: we’ve covered a few like Start Menu Reviver, and our favorite so far been Classic Shell.

Here’s how to use Classic Shell to get back both that Start Menu and Start Button right now, without having to wait for Windows 8.1 or pay for pricy alternatives.

Download the Classic Shell. As it’s free you won’t be prompted to present credit card information or payment methods of any sort though you can donate to the project.

Once you’ve finished the download, run the application by double clicking the file you’ve downloaded, or use the Run button that pops up in your web browser of choice. Remember to read and agree to the Terms of Service. You’ll be prompted by Windows to give the application permission to install. Do so by clicking ‘Yes.’

Once the installation is finished you’ll notice two things. The first is that you’ll now find a colorful new Start Button on your taskbar. The second is that clicking that button will trigger with a blank Start Menu that matches the color of your computer’s Aero interface. Don’t worry if it’s blank. As you use more apps it’ll auto populate with the apps you frequently open, whether they are Metro applications or desktop applications.

You can still access the Start Screen by holding the Shift button on your keyboard and clicking on the Start Button at the same time, or by bringing up the Charms in the right, top corner of your screen.

You can choose between different skins that are based on older versions of the Start Menu by right clicking on the new Start Button and then clicking settings. These include everything from a version that is inspired by the Metro design language to one that’s as barebones as the version included in Windows 98. From here you’ll also find options for adjusting text size and so forth.

In Basic Settings there are also options to completely control your experience so that you’ll never have to look at the new Start Screen again, including an option that will enables the Start Menu whenever you press the Windows key on your keyboard. There is also the option to boot directly into the desktop so that you never have to use the Start Screen ever again.

Samsung Galaxy S4 May Get Snapdragon 800 Processor

The Samsung Galaxy S4 currently comes with two different processors depending on the region. In some parts of the world, it utilizes a Snapdragon 600 processor from Qualcomm, in others, a Exynos 5 Octa processor from Samsung itself. Now, thanks to a new benchmark, it appears that the device may ultimately come with another processor type, the powerful Snapdragon 800 processor from Qualcomm.

At CES 2013, Samsung and Qualcomm both made big announcements. Samsung revealed its Exynos 5 Octa processor, an octo-core chip that sports eight different cores, but only uses four of them at a time, depending on usage. Qualcomm on the other hand introduced not one, but two new quad-core chips in the Snapdragon 600 and the Snapdragon 800.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 could get a Snapdragon 800 processor.

The Snapdragon 600, like the Exynos 5 Octa, has appeared in the variants of the Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung’s latest flagship smartphone, providing users with good performance and efficient battery life.

It appears that Samsung may not be done with the Galaxy S4 after it releases the Galaxy S4 Mini, Galaxy S4 Active and Galaxy S4. RBMen discovered a benchmark that points to a new Galaxy S4, possibly called the Galaxy S4 Advanced, that may be sporting a Snapdragon 800 quad-core chip. The AnTuTu benchmark showcases a chip running at around 2.3GHz and a device running Android 4.2, not Android 4.3.

The device will reportedly land with the new processor in and around August, ahead of the Advanced-LTE roll out in Korea. This points to it possibly being an exclusive in Korea though because the device is unconfirmed, and benchmarks can easily be faked, it’s impossible to say if, when, or how this device will launch.

Surely, there will be plenty of consumers hoping for a launch elsewhere as the Snapdragon 800 is a powerful processor and one that is rumored to be coming inside the Galaxy Note 3.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 is not only going to improve performance over the Snapdragon 600 but it should bring features like quicker charging, better battery life, support for more game engines and more. It’s a powerful chip and one that should arrive on a number of high-end smartphones and tablets before the end of the year.

Whether it comes to the Samsung Galaxy S4 or not remains to be seen but judging by Samsung’s aggressive launch, it can’t be ruled out just yet.
