4. May 2013: Corvette Stingray

The Corvette Stingray moniker was last used in 1976, but this throwback comes in 21st century fancy dress, all aluminium, carbon and relative fuel economy. Century-old pushrod valve actuation soldiers on in the 6.2-litre V8, but there’s direct injection, variable valve timing and cylinder deactivation. End result? 450bhp and sub four seconds to 60mph, while one look at the quartet of big-bore exhaust pipes tells you it’ll sound like Brian Blessed gargling rocks.
