HTC One, the smartphone that managed to get the Taiwan-based back among the big players of the smartphone market, it’s available on the market for only a couple of months, but the latest reports are showing that HTC is working around the clock to upgrade its hardware platform, in order to release an upgraded HTC One by the end of the year.
Most likely without any changes in terms of design, the upgraded HTC One will come to attract the Android enthusiasts who want their smartphones to be underpinned by the most powerful chipsets on the market, as it will probably change the current Snapdragon 600 chispet with Quallcom’s flagship unit, the Snapdragon 800.
The guys at Pocket Lint write that the customers who want a more affordable device will also get to taste a plastic HTC One, which will be some sort of replacement for the current HTC Butterfly devices.The same publication writes that the HTC One 2, which, as you probably guessed will be the HTC One follow-up, will make an official debut in early 2014. Just like the current model, the HTC One 2 (codenamed M8) will also get an affordable variant, which gets rid of the aluminium finishing.
Just in case you forgot, I remind you that the HTC One was officially introduced in February 2013, coming pre-loaded with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean customized with the company’s proprietary Sense 5.0 interface. Anyway, the flagship device of the Taiwanese phone maker has recently received an update to the latest Android version, Jelly Bean 4.2.2.
HTC One is boasting a 4.7-inch full HD display that makes use of the Super LCD3 technology, while being underpinned by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 SoC based on four Krait 300 cores clocked at 1.7 GHz and Adreno 320 GPU. The handset also comes with 2 GB of RAM and 32/64 GB of internal storage, lacking microSD card support.
The device is 137.4 mm tall, 68.2 wide, and 9.3 mm thin, weighs 140 grams and is powered by a non-removable Li-Po 2300 mAh battery. In terms of connectivity the HTC One comes with HSPA+; LTE, Cat3, 50 Mbps UL, 100 Mbps DL, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/ac/b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth v4.0 with A2DP, NFC chip, IR blaster, and microUSB v2.0 (MHL).
While most of the rival high-end smartphones currently available on the market come with 13 megapixel cameras (see Samsung Galaxy S4, Sony Xperia Z, and LG Optimus G Pro), the HTC One features a 4 megapixel UltraPixel sensor with autofocus, LED flash, 1/3” sensor size, 2µm pixel size, simultaneous HD video and image recording, geo-tagging, face and smile detection, optical image stabilization, and support for full HD video recording.
Besides the upgraded HTC One, the rumor mill speculates that two more HTC smartphones will hit the market this year. The HTC One Mini, which will be a mid-range smartphone with the same design and materials as the flagship model, and HTC One Max, HTC’s first phablet which will take on Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3.
