iPhone 5S Release News You Don’t Want To Hear

The iPhone 5S release date is set for September 20th, and Apple is skipping iPhone 5s pre-orders, which has plenty of iPhone buyers asking when and where they can buy a new iPhone without waiting in line and being disappointed.
The good news is that we finally know when Apple will take iPhone 5s orders on the 20th, which should help users order online late that night for a delivery early next week, but even with online options, it looks like there will be long lines on the iPhone 5s release date and stores with very few new iPhones to sell.
Speaking with representatives at a third party retailer and a corporate carrier location Gotta Be Mobile was warned that the iPhone 5s stock will be limited on the release date and the addition of the Gold iPhone 5s could mean that there is less depth to the stock on hand.
The iPhone 5s release date will likely come with disappointment and shortages.
The iPhone 5s release date will likely come with disappointment and shortages.
For instance if a store received 50 iPhone 5 units for the release in 2012, it may still get that many units, but now instead of splitting it between six options, there are 9 color and storage combinations. This is assuming these locations will receive the same number of iPhone 5s units as they did for previous iPhone release dates.
A new report from Jeffries & Co analyst Peter Misek calls the iPhone 5s fingerprint sensor yields, “terrible,” which is not a good sing for anyone who wants to buy the new iPhone 5s anytime soon.
The iPhone 5s comes with a new Touch ID feature that places a fingerprint sensor inside the iPhone 5s home button to securely unlock the phone and act as an iTunes password for buying apps and in app purchases.
In a note posted in part at BGR, Misek claims Apple will only be able to build 5 to 10 million iPhone 5s devices for this quarter. Apple sold 5 million iPhone 5 units in opening weekend during 2012, and tallied up 2 million iPhone 5 pre-orders. That was a jump from 1 million in 2011.
Assuming all things equal that means two million more people in line competing with you on the iPhone 5s release date. Even though the iPhone 5c pre-orders are available, it looks like the big demand for release date will be for the iPhone 5s.
There are no official iPhone 5s pre-orders, but Target is taking reservations and Radio Shack will put your name on a list to share more details as the date approaches. The best way to make sure you can get an iPhone 5s as fast as possible is to order online as soon as Midnight Pacific/3AM Eastern arrives on September 20th, and avoid the iPhone 5s release date lines altogether.
