GTA 5 Reviews: Worth The Price

Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto 5 is just hours away from its formal release, but if the reviews going live today are correct, series fans needn’t worry about whether the game is a worthwhile investment.
Following a lift of the game’s embargo, gaming-centric websites are now slowly beginning to publish their own reviews of the latest in the fabled crime and open-world game. Many of these early reviews indicate that, despite worries about whether the game’s attempt to focus on three different main characters would make the its story confusing, the game is more breathtaking and intuitive.

Michael, one of Grand Theft Auto 5′s three protagonists.
In a breakdown for Polygon, reviewer Chris Plante says, “… Grand Theft Auto 5 is mercifully more lighthearted than its predecessors, and even occasionally vulnerable, thanks in large part to its broader stable of characters.” That isn’t to say that Plante believes the series is showing all the hallmark signs of creative and personal growth. The review does highlight the series’ tendency to not include women protagonists and its lack of playable female characters. The publication awarded the game a 9.5 out of 10.

Although its review is considerably less enthusiastic about the game’s main characters, Joystiqultimately comes to the same conclusion that other publications do in their reviews. According to the outlet, Grand Theft Auto 5′s real show-stopper is its open world.
“Story complaints aside, it’s the world of San Andreas that is the main attraction, and it does not disappoint. For every narrative quibble, there are dozens of discoveries to be made, and many of the best moments will be the ones you create yourself.” The outlet ultimately rated the game 4 and a half out of 5 stars.
Many of the game’s other reviews follow along the same lines as these two, praising its sense of humor and irony, while questioning the motives behind the game’s disturbing story lines. The latter is a problem GottaBeMobile alluded too when addressing whether it’s a good idea for parents purchase the game for their young children at launch.

iFruit GTA 5 iPhone & iPad App Offers Customization On The Go

Rockstar Games seems to have spared no expense when developing GTA 5, the latest edition in the Grand Theft Auto franchise. A new application released for iPhone and iPad will allow users to interact with the game while away from their Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3.
The application, which is now available in theiTunes App Store for free,  allows users to stay keyed into the game’s happenings even when they are away from their console. According to the app’s description, users will be able to use specific sections of the application to change things in the game and receive info on the latest in-game news.
Using the Lost Santos Customs, virtual application allows iPhone and iPad users to create their own vehicles complete with custom window tints, spoke colors, wheels, hoods and spoilers. Users can also reserve their license plates in the Grand Theft Auto Online multiplayer world that debuts in two weeks.

Virtual application, Chop the Dog enhances game play as well. Through the Chop the Dog application, users can take care of one of the game’s main character’s pets from their iPhone and IPad wherever they are. By, feeding, petting, walking, and training the dog, Rockstar says users will find that the dog is more helpful, performs tricks and helps them player find hidden items in Grand Theft Auto 5. By adding this capability to the iFruit application, Rockstar is hoping that users stay immersed in the game. It’s an idea that isn’t all that far from the digital pet toys that dominated holiday wish lists in the late 1990s.
The company says that it also has a digital manual for the game releasing today as well. It will include “over 100 pages” of content about the game including maps and location information, all for free.
Although the iFruit application is only available on iOS devices today, it won’t remain that way forever. Rockstar says users can expect the app along with the game’s digital manual to roll out to Google Play, and Windows Phone over time. PlayStation Mobile and PlayStation Vita will have access to a version of iFruit, however it looks like they won’t be getting the manual.

GTA 5 Cheat Codes for Xbox 360 & PS3

GTA 5 cheat codes can make getting along in San Andreas a little bit easier thanks to the ability to spawn vehicles, fill up special abilities, control wanted levels and much more.
While GTA 4 relied on the in game phone to enter cheats, which were then easily accessed through a speed dial option, GTA 5 cheat codes instead rely on players memorizing button combinations.
This is a bit trickier for casual gamers to remember, but the plethora of GTA 5 cheat codes for Xbox 360 and PS3 should make free roaming San Andreas more eventful, and crossing the huge map a bit faster in a stunt plane, helicopter or fast car.
Here are the GTA 5 cheat codes for Xbox 360 and PS3 so far.

Keep in mind that these GTA 5 cheat codes will not help you gan achievements as accessing a GTA 5 cheat code will turn them off for a session. This may mean gamers need to save their game, go crazy with cheat codes, quit and reload the previous save. Or it could mean users will just need to save and restart their game.
These GTA 5 cheats come from users who were able to go hands on with the game early, and were able to discover that cheats from previous games work in GTA 5.
Reddit user highpixels shared the GTA 5 Xbox 360 cheat codes for vehicles, items, player upgrades, and world changing cheats.

GTA 5 Videos Showcase Upgraded Graphics, Thrills & Missions

For users who managed to get their hands on a copy of Rockstar’s Game’s Grand Theft Auto 5or GTA 5, the hours following last night’s midnight launch were probably a mix of daring car chases, outrageous vehicular theft and a lot of death. Here’s some of our favorite videos of the game to surface since it launched early this morning.
Many of Grand Theft Auto 5’s most harrowing moments don’t come from seeking mission check points or advancing in the game’s story. Some of them come from users simply breaking into areas they shouldn’t necessarily be in and capturing rare vehicles. In this video, a user breaks into a military base and airport in the game to obtain a tank and a fighter jet.

In real life, chasing a group of thugs in a boat down the highway likely wouldn’t end well, but inGrand Theft Auto 5, it’s completely encouraged as showcased in this video of game’s campaign missions.

As the game’s title suggests, sometimes missions in the game come down to stealing cars and trying to get away from the game’s police officers without giving up the ill-gotten automobile.

While many users stood in line to get their hands on the game a bit earlier than everyone else and obtain a few pre-order bonuses, that doesn’t mean it’s too late for casual gamers to get in on the action. Users can purchase the latest installment in the Grand Theft Auto franchise for $59.99 at GameStop, Target, Walmart, Amazon and Best Buy now. While standard editions of the game are still in stock, Grand Theft Auto 5: Special Edition is still sold out at GameStop and Amazon.

Now that the game’s midnight launch rush has subsided users can finally download the iFruit companion application for iPhone and iPad users. With it, users can monitor their progress in the game, and customize their vehicles for the Grand Theft Auto Online multiplayer mode coming in two weeks. While users could download the application before, signs up for the Rockstar Account that is required to use the application were broken just before the game’s launch due to a rush of users all trying to create accounts at the same time.
Here’s one final hour long GTA 5 video that showcases the open world and vehicles with no spoilers.

iOS 7 Controller Support Teased in New Game Update

Our first sighting of iOS 7 game controller support has hit the iTunes App Store in the form of an update to AVP: Evolution, which is the latest Alien vs. Predator mobile game. The game was updated today, and under the “What’s New” section lists “iOS 7 Game Controller Support,” as well as support for the 64-bit processor in the iPhone 5s optimizations for iOS 7.
Apple announced back in June during WWDC 2013 that iOS 7 would bring game controller support at some point, and it would essentially be up to the devs on when they want to bring such support to their games, and it looks like AVP: Evolution is the first one out of the gate.
The company didn’t show of game controller support during its unveiling, which has a lot of confused, but it’s merely possible that Apple didn’t have the support polished up enough to show it at their event. In any case, we finally know it’s real, and we should be expecting more and more iOS games over time get updated with controller support.
avp
Granted, iOS gamers have been able to play games on their devices with a third-party controller for some time, but you had to be jailbroken and it required a bit of patience for it to work properly. However, Apple is bringing that support so that you’ll no longer have to deal with hacks and other tricks to get controllers to work.
The functionality will be a part of iOS’s Game Center, but Apple didn’t provide any other details beyond that. Plus, the company isn’t marketing game controller support all that much on its website currently, meaning that it’s not a huge deal to them, or they’re just waiting for game developers to get it into high gear.
Gamepads are already getting Apple’s approval, including the DUO Gamer controller, which is the first gamepad to become Apple-approved for use on iOS devices. We could see more controllers hit the market in the future, although we’re not sure if Apple will add support for the PlayStation’s DualShock series, which connects via Bluetooth. They have been the controller of choice for many mobile gamers, but we’ll see how it ultimately plays out in the future.

Grand Theft Auto 5 Leaks Out, Microsoft Throws the Banhammer

Grand Theft Auto 5 doesn’t officially release until next Tuesday, but some folks have claimed to already gotten copies of the game, and they’re turning around and selling them on eBay for a big profit.
For example, this PlayStation 3 copy was sold for $500, and the seller is guaranteeing Saturday delivery on September 14 — four days before the game releases. We’re not sure if someone actually bought this item, but it at least proves that early copies are out there.
Furthermore, Rockstar Games, Microsoft and Take Two Interactive are teaming together to shut down any leaked footage that gets out. Microsoft is banning Xbox 360 consoles of owners who leak footage out. One gamer in particular posted leaked footage on Vine and ended up getting his console banned.
GTA 5 Bonsu Guns
One of his Vine’s contained his gamertag, and with that as evidence, Microsoft quickly hit the big red button to have his console banned from Xbox Live, meaning he has to have to buy a new one in order to play online again. Harsh!
Rockstar is sweeping the internet and taking down all leaked footage that it comes across. Searching around for footage on YouTube and other sites reveals that most leaked videos have been taken down by now, claiming that they break Rockstar copyright claims.
Indeed, Rockstar’s policy on posting copyrighted material from its games is pretty straightforward, saying that “any posting of in-game footage from leaked copies of the game prior to its official release date will be taken down, regardless of how the game was obtained. This includes ‘early unboxing’ videos.”

While we’ve seen eBay listings for PlayStation 3 versions of the game being sold, there’s no word on whether or not Sony is banning gamers who have gotten the game early. It’s also not said if Microsoft is also banning gamers who are simply just playing the game before the release date. We’re guessing early, selected reviewers are whitelisted by Microsoft, but they may have the banhammer ready for those not authorized to play it.
However, one thing that Rockstar can’t stop is the uploading of Xbox 360 versions of the game to torrent sites. Two-disc ISO sets are appearing on these sites, and while Rockstar can try to take these down, torrent sites are a lot harder to budge as far as this kind of takedown is concerned. Of course, you’ll have to have the right kind of know how to get a torrented copy working on your console, but nonetheless, it’s out there, and it seems people just can’t wait a few more days.

GTA 5, The One Game You Shouldn’t Buy Your Kid

Just as it has been for decades with television shows and movies, every so often there comes a game that makes parents of gamers stand up and take notice. Sometimes, as with Nintendo’s Wii console, it’s because parents are interested in getting involved in gaming with their children. Other times, it’s because their children play games without them and they worry about what the latest and greatest titles might exposure their children too.
For those who game, Grand Theft Auto 5 is a title they’ll want to pick up. For parents, the equation is a bit murky.
Create customized characters.
Grand Theft Auto Online will allow users to create and customize criminals to pull crimes with.
For starters, if the Grand Theft Auto franchise has a legacy it’s that it was the first real game to make parents question if they should blindly buy video games for their teens and young children. Although it’s likely this new title won’t reach the heights of the completely inappropriate scenes in hidden in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, all the hallmarks of the franchise are still there. That includes gambling, robbing fictional characters with fire arms and attacking police officers with bats, grenades and assault rifles.

Scenes from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas were completely inappropriate. Warning: Not safe for work.
In trying to stave off regulations by the United States Federal Government, the video game industry adopted a ratings scale that will seem familiar to longtime movies goers. Under the content ratings by the Electronic Safety Ratings Board or ESRB, games are classified with different ratings based on their criteria. These ratings include E for Everyone, T for Teen, E 10+ for children ten and up, M for Mature and A for Adults only. While Grand Theft Auto 5 doesn’t have enough outrageous content to make it to an adult rating, it’s M for Mature rating is reason enough for parents to not buy it for children 17 and under. The game gained that rating for “intense violence, blood and gore, nudity, mature humor, strong language, strong sexual content, and use of drugs and alcohol.”
While some parents may be OK with buying the M rated Call of Duty:Ghosts for their child because it mainly involves gore and shooting in a military setting, the same parents may not appreciate the nudity, prostitutes and other sexual content available in GTA 5. Rather than be shocked and surprised at what their child is playing, it’s a very good time to download the ESRB ratings app and familiarize yourself with what game ratings mean in order to make an informed choice for your kids.

All of this isn’t to say that Grand Theft Auto 5 is a great game. In fact, many of the trailers depict a game world that’s as unique and filled with colorful characters as Rockstar – the game’s developer — has ever made. The amount of vehicles and weaponry that users will have as they try to advance in the game and pull off ever more complicated robberies are great.
That is, For those who are old enough to handle it. GTA 5 arrives on store shelves, September 17th for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Xbox One Makes A Gift for the Entire Family

When Microsoft debuted its next Xbox One console earlier this year, gamers hit the roof. Many of them took to social networks like Twitter and Facebook, demanding that Microsoft change the console’s direction and appeal more to what many referred to as the “hard-core gaming crowd”. That is, users who primarily use consoles to play video games. Now, just four months later, the Xbox One’s value-proposition is starting to come into focus, and to the ire of gamers, it looks like the console might pull out a win against Sony’sPlayStation 4 – not with gamers, but with families.

Skype Makes Connecting With Family Easier

While other consoles can boast that they feature video, text and audio chat, to date, no other console besides the Xbox One can boast an easy solution to communicating with friends and family no matter what device they own. Purchased by Microsoft just a few years ago, Skype comes built into every Xbox One, and allow users to make audio and video calls with friends who have iPhones, PCs, Macs, Windows Phones and devices running Google’s Android operating system.
For users who aren’t necessarily all that savvy with technology, Skype on an Xbox One will be the easiest way for users to community with other family members without managing software. Since every Xbox One comes equipped with a Kinect, it’s also the best way for Xbox LIVE subscribers to communicate without having to buy a webcam.
Microsoft's next generation console delivers on a few different entertainment fronts.
Microsoft’s next generation console delivers on a few different entertainment fronts.

The Remote Becomes Useless

For those users who have an Xbox One and a cable subscription, the Xbox One turns television watching on its head. Using the HDMI pass through port on the rear of every Xbox One, buyers can make use of the console’s live television and guide functionality to find what television shows are popular, change channels and see what’s coming on next.
The Xbox One also eliminates lost remotes. Instead, users can change channels and adjust the volume of the channels they are watching with Xbox One’s built in Kinect sensor through voice or by making gestures.

Entertainment for the Whole Family

Microsoft isn’t resting with the waves it made by introducing entertainment-cenetric applications with the Xbox 360. On the Xbox One, the company is doubling down on its efforts with football. Starting this year, Xbox is what Microsoft is referring to as the Official Interactive Content Provider of the NFL. That’s a long way of saying, football, with scores and highlights, is only on the Xbox One as opposed to the PlayStation 4.
The NFL has an exclusive app experience coming to the Xbox One.
The NFL has an exclusive app experience coming to the Xbox One.
That’s not all though. The company is continuing to work with content providers to bring their networks to Xbox. While we don’t yet know what applications will make their way to the Xbox One this fall, the Xbox 360 already supports apps for Nick, The CW, Disney, Amazon, Comedy Central, ESPN, Fox, Major League Baseball, MTV, YouTube, UFC, Netflix and many more.

Effectively, Microsoft isn’t just making a play at gamers with the Xbox One, it’s also ensuring that it has a well-rounded entertainment focus for consumers who aren’t necessarily that into gaming.
It’s gambling that there are also millions of users who want to watch television, videos and more. In a world where devices like the TiVo set-top box compete with devices like the Apple TV, finding a family-oriented middle ground is key.
Microsoft’s Xbox One is already available for pre-order. The company expects to begin putting the device on store shelves on November 22nd.

GTA 5 for PS4 & PC References Allegedly Found in Game Code

GTA 5 for PS4 may be in the works, with a tip coming from code that appeared online from a pirated Xbox 360 version of the game. This alleged code also shows references for GTA 5 on PC.
The GTA 5 release date is tomorrow, but early copies of the game went on sale over the weekend, and a pirated Xbox 360 version of GTA 5 is making the rounds on file sharing networks.
This alleged GTA 5 code comes from the pirated version of the game, and shows references for “Orbis” and PC configurations. Orbis was an early code name for the PS4 dev kit, which means it is possible Rockstar is playing GTA 5 on PS4 internally.
Code from a pirated GTA 5 game, allegedly shows a GTA 5 on PS4 reference.
Code from a pirated GTA 5 game, allegedly shows a GTA 5 on PS4 reference.
DualShockers spotted the reference in a Pastebin dump of the GTA 5 code for Xbox, linking to the original code for users who understand the inner workings of games.
This is a bit of bright news on the eve of the GTA 5 release, but there is a chance that the GTA 5 on PS4 reference is simply placed there by the hacker, same for the PC GTA 5 config code.

GTA 5 for PS4 code, from an alleged Xbox 360 code dump. Orbis was the code name for PS4 dev units.
Notably there is no mention of a GTA 5 on Xbox One code showing up on this leaked file, though if Rockstar makes GTA 5 for one of the new consoles we could expect it on both.
Shuhei Yoshida, President of Worldwide Studios, Sony Computer Entertainment was asked about the code on Twitter, responding, “I don’t know.”

Sony appeared to confirm GTA 5 on the PS4 in late August in a Tweet, but Sony apologized for the error and Rockstar said that it was just a typo.
GTA 5 publisher Rockstar is candid about plans for a GTA 5 on PS4 release, skirting direct questions from publications who ask about the future of the series.
The good news is that GTA 5 Online appears to be a living and breathing game which Rockstar will expand. In an interview with Game Informer, Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies shared the scope of GTA 5 Online, hinting at the inclusion of other GTA worlds.
Benzies told Game Informer, via IGN, that the goal is,
“to create an entire Grand Theft Auto world that consists of everything we’ve done or are going to do then let the player freely move between them.”
With this in mind we could see GTA 5 Online expand to Liberty City and Vice City in the future. Rockstar is planning a game that users can play for years, not months, explains Benzies,
“We’ve always wanted to create a world with the complexity of a single-player Grand Theft Auto game with the addition of real players. We wanted a world where people could spend years without getting bored of playing the same content over and over.”
“I think we’ve managed to achieve something very close to our dream.”
With years of gameplay in mind, it seems reasonable to expect GTA 5 on PS4 and Xbox sometime in the future, just don’t get too excited for a release this year or in early 2014 as Rockstar undoubtedly wants to set records with the GTA 5 release for Xbox 360 and PS4.

Nintendo 2DS to Bring Lower Cost Nintendo 2DS To Gamers Everywhere

It seems Nintendo isn’t comfortable with just sitting back and allowing smartphones and cheaper gaming options to move in on its mobile console gaming territory. This fall the company will be striking back with the Nintendo 2DS: a cheaper device for the low-end gaming market.
While the company hasn’t posted an official announcement on the gaming console on its website. Polygon, has somehow managed to get hold of all the information those thinking about picking up the Nintendo 2DS might need to know. Reportedly, the device will sell for just $129.99 when it debuts in North America on October 12.
As its name suggests, The Nintendo 2DS, will allow users to enjoy the same games as theNintendo 3DS console, just without any simulated 3D effects. While Nintendo hasn’t yet commented on why it choose to drop the 3D technology, it’s likely that doing so was simply a concession to reach the lower price. Currently, the Nintendo 3DS is priced at $169.99, possibly putting it just out of the “impulse buy” range that the mobile gaming market heavily relies on now to boost sales.
The Nintendo 2DS.
The Nintendo 2DS.
The most striking difference between the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo 2DS might be its somewhat unorthodox design. Instead of the clamshell design that Nintendo has relied on since introducing the Gameboy Advance SP, the Nintendo 2DS is one single piece of plastic with a larger and smaller screen. If that wasn’t enough, its design heavily resembles a wooden wedge that might be used as a door stop.

It doesn’t seem that the company has made any changes to the device‘s controls. The Nintendo 2DS will hang on to the touch screen, directional pad and thumb control previously seen in the 3DS.
News of the Nintendo 2DS comes just days after rival Sony announced that it would be cutting the price of its PlayStation Vita mobile console by $50. Both console price cuts are likely in response to the changing fortunes of mobile gaming. While mobile gaming consoles continue to offer a better gaming experience for users, smartphones like the iPhone now bring in nearly twice what dedicated mobile gaming consoles earn in one quarter.

Nintendo Cutting Price of the Wii U by $50

This fall users, won’t just be able to get a cheaper mobile gaming experience with theNintendo 2DS, they’ll also be able to pick up a cheaper deluxe edition of the Nintendo Wii U.
According to a press release from the Japanese gaming titan, on September 20th it will lower the cost of the Wii U Deluxe bundle by $50, giving users the option to have the console’s most expensive bundle at just $299. It appears the deluxe bundle will take the place of the $299 Wii U basic edition that’s already available in stores. Nintendo says that it has no plans to discount it in the near future.
The basic Wii U bundle only includes 8GB of storage, while the Wii U Deluxe edition includes a copy of the Nintendoland game, and 32GB of storage. While the driving reason for the Nintendo 2DS launch remains elusive, the reason behind the pricing changes of the Wii U Deluxe edition is clear.

The price cuts are simply a preemptive response to the impending launches of the Xbox One andPlayStation 4. By lowering the price in early September, Nintendo is hoping users planning their holiday shopping early will keep it in mind as a gift. It’s also hoping to make the console look

Xbox One Release Date Could Beat PS4

The Xbox One release date still isn’t set in stone though Microsoft has confirmed the console’s arrival for November. Today though, we’re hearing about a possible Xbox One release date of November 8th which, if true, would mean that the Xbox One would beat Sony’s PlayStation 4 release date of November 15th.
Microsoft confirmed the Xbox One release date for arrival in November for a number of regions around the world, including the United States. The company, unlike Sony, has yet to confirm a specific release date for its next-generation console, leaving those who pre-ordered wondering when it might be out on shelves.
Watch the Xbox One unboxing video to see one of 20 current production Xbox One units in retail packaging.
The Xbox One release date has been pegged for November 8th.
If a new leak from Kotaku is dead on, the Xbox One release date might land on November 8th, or, a few days ahead of the PlayStation 4 release date which is confirmed for November 15th. The leak comes from a company that works with Walmart to develop signage and product placement for products, so it’s entirely possible that the company has intimate knowledge about the Xbox One release.
The evidence comes in the form of a launch schedule which includes the Xbox One with a release date clearly pegged for November 8th. What’s interesting though is that while the other dates are “confirmed” the Xbox One does not have that moniker attached to it, meaning, Microsoft is likely still throwing around dates for the Xbox One’s release.
The date likely emerged recently and it’s a sign that Microsoft could be toying with the idea of beating the PS4 to release, now that the console has a release date set in stone.
It’s unclear when Microsoft might finally announce an Xbox One release but consumers can expect it to do so with ample time between announcement and release.
The Xbox One release date appears to be tentative.
The Xbox One release date appears to be tentative.
Recently, the company was forced to push back the release dates for some regions around the world due in part to high demand for its next-generation console.
The company will still issue the Xbox One in November for Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Spain, United Kingdom, United States and New Zealand but the release in the other countries that were originally part of the initial launch announcement have been pushed back.
Microsoft’s Xbox One is poised to replace the Xbox 360, Microsoft’s long time console, with upgraded hardware, a steeper price tag, a new interface and a ton of big name games that will include Forza 5, Madden 25, and more.
