Earlier today, we reported that the HTC One S Android 4.2 and Sense 5 updates once again were the subject of some disappointing news with a noted HTC leakster claiming that it would not get Android 4.2 Jelly Bean or the promised upgrade to Sense 5. Unfortunately now, it’s HTC France itself that is saying that the HTC One S Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update and Sense 5 update will not arrive.
The HTC One S Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and Sense 5 updates have seen a number of disappointing rumors leak out over the past few weeks, rumors that seem to point to the device not getting the promised upgraded to Sense 5 or the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update. We also saw the head of HTC Russia proclaim that the update may not come due to technical issues, only to delete the tweet.
Earlier today, @LLabTooFeR once again claimed that the HTC One S Android 4.2 and Sense 5 update was in trouble and now, it looks like his suspicious have been confirmed by HTC itself.
According to a Facebook response from HTC France, first discovered by HubFR, the HTC One S won’t be getting either Sense 5 or any of the new versions of Android which likely means Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. Here is the full translation of what HTC France had to say:
Hello Philippe, we inform you that the HTC One S no longer have access to updates for future versions of Android and HTC Sense. We are aware that this information will disappoint some, but our customers can be confident that we have designed for the One S that offers video and audio experience of the highest quality. Thank you.
This is obviously not good for HTC One S owners in France or owners of the HTC One S in general. While this comes from a regional arm of HTC, which are notoriously ill informed, it does line up with what we have been hearing and at the very least, suggests that there is a very good chance that the software won’t arrive.
HTC corporate has not said anything either way, nor have HTC USA chimed in to the situation. However, given the previous comments from HTC Russia’s head and HTC France, it’s looking like the HTC One S may remain on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and Sense 5 despite it only being a year old.
So while this isn’t definitive, it’s looking more and more like the HTC One S Android 4.2 and Sense 5 update will be put on the shelf, much to the disappointment of HTC One S owners.
