Splinter Cell Blacklist: ‘Biggest Splinter Cell Game We’ve Ever Created’ – Ubisoft

Splinter Cell Conviction was a pretty short game. Even though Ubisoft added a co-op mode and extra missions, it was still not brimming with content compared to the previous games in the long running franchise.
Maxime Beland, Creative Director of Splinter Cell Blacklist believes that this won’t be the case this time around. There are thirteen chapters in the single player campaign to go along with the in-depth Spies Versus Mercs multiplayer mode.
“This is the biggest Splinter Cell game we’ve ever created and there is a huge amount of content between the immersive SP experience, Co-op with the 4th Echelon missions, the legendary Spies Versus Mercs multiplayer and of course our universal economy and customization system in the game.  The single player campaign features 13 exciting levels that immerse the player in a thrilling modern story ripped from today’s headlines,” he assured us.
He also revealed that players can take on fourteen Echelon missions and they will reveal more details on the Spies Vs. Mercs mode as they get more closer to launch.
“In co-op, players can take on 14 4th Echelon missions.  And we feature the massive Spies Versus Mercs multiplayer mode that support multiple modes, playstyles and endless variety that will provide months of intense multiplayer entertainment for fans.  We will have more details on the Spies Vs. Mercs mode as we get closer to launch. We think fans will agree the scope of the game is worth the price tag,” he added.
The game is due this August for the PS3, Xbox 360, PC and Wii U.

Splinter Cell Blacklist: ‘Interactive Interrogations Weren’t Serving The Story The Way We Wanted’

Interrogations were a big part of Conviction but it seems that Blacklist will be taking a rather narrative approach with them, something that just progresses the story.
“Making a game like Splinter Cell Blacklist is a highly iterative process and design decisions sometimes change along the way. The core narrative dictates what happens in the gameplay, and the interactive interrogations weren’t serving the story the way we wanted.  The interrogations are still in the game, but now they are narrative moments that progress the story.  When we launch the game in August, we’re confident that players will feel like the story and message is getting across,” said Maxime Beland, Creative Director of Splinter Cell Blacklist in an interview with us.
On a personal note, I enjoyed the brutal interrogations in Conviction so I feel rather uneasy with this change. But it remains to be seen how it will impact gameplay so I will reserve my verdict for later.
Maxime also revealed that the game will reward more to players who adopt the Ghost (stealthy) style of approach.
“Our economy system is balanced in a way thatgives more rewards to the Ghost player. For example, taking out an enemy non-lethally, without ever being detected, rewards youmore in game currency than taking the enemy out lethally. You will get even more points if you pick up the body and hide it in a bin,” he added.
The game is due this August for the PS3, Xbox 360, PC and Wii U. Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Bohemia Interactive Website Hacked

ARMA 3_beta (2)
Bohemia Interactive, the studio behind the popular PC exclusive military sim series, just seems to attract trouble. After the entire debacle of their developers being jailed, they now find themselves in the midst of another (rather smaller) controversy- their website has been hacked. The studio will be resetting all passwords in response.
“We have unfortunately discovered that an illegal attempt has been made to access certain of our online websites, leading to the download of a database containing usernames, email addresses and encrypted passwords,” Bohemia said in a statement on their website.
“Please note due to the encryption of the passwords it is very unlikely that anything nefarious can be done with this information.
“We would like to reassure everyone that no other information such as credit card details is stored by us and thus was not at any risk from this illegal breach.”

PlayStation 4 Release Date Leaked

PS4Box
According to PS4.sx the release date for the much-anticipated next-generation platform – PlayStation 4 is November 13th 2013. You can look at the website and see a countdown that points towards the November 13th 2013 date. However, this date was also previously rumored on other websites as the European release date for PlayStation 4.
This doesn’t confirm anything at the moment due to the fact that it’s not official. The November 13th 2013 date for Europe makes sense, however; GameStop and other retailers in the US have been hearing late October for the US.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag – Creative Director Confirmed to Outside Xbox the PlayStation 4 and Current-Gen versions of the game are “Same Ship”. This implies that the the PlayStation 4 will come out 31st of October/November 1st for the US. Meanwhile, the European market is pointing towards November 13th.
All in all, everything is still a rumor and should be taken with a grain of salt. Sony might announce the date at this year’s Gamescom in August.

Far Cry 4 Details Coming Soon Says Ubisoft

Far-Cry-3
Ubisoft’s Marketing & Sales VP Tony Key is excited to share new details on the next entry in the franchise series in the near future. This is what he had to say regarding the success of Far Cry 3 and the future of the brand.
“We’re totally psyched from [Far Cry 3],” said Key. “It’s a great brand, and now it’s got the recognition it deserves, so we’re clearly going to make another one: more on that soon,” he added.
It’s not a real surprise that a new Far Cry 4 is already planned or possibly in works for the next-generation consoles. All the big companies have already moved on to next-generation projects. Far Cry 3 was a success and the Blood Dragon downloadable expansion was also well received by many consumers and journalists.

Murdered: Soul Suspect E3 2013 Video

MurderedSS_Logo
Square-Enix has released their lengthy video walk-through demonstration of Murdered: Soul Suspect. The video footage is 25 minutes long and showcases how the gameplay works. Murdered: Soul Suspect is a unique game when it comes to solving murder cases due to the fact that the game also combines action elements.
Have a look at the video, Eric Studer explains the game’s mechanics as you watch the game is being played. It’s kind of hard to explain the concept of Murdered: Soul Suspect. Instead, I highly recommend you check out the walk-through of the game for yourself. Enjoy.

Shareaholic Shares Traffic Sources Data

Shareaholic is the creator of a widget that site owners can put on their websites to allow visitors to share their content on various social bookmarking sites and social networks. Every month they release a report with the main traffic sources and trends they publishers are seeing (combined they receive over 300 million visitors per month).
The October 2012 report is out, and the data is quite interesting. First and foremost because it’s pretty much putting another nail on the StumbleUpon coffin. Here’s a quote:
Pinterest aside, as far as growth and decline goes this year, the trend that stands out the most this month is around StumbleUpon. StumbleUpon’s share of traffic sent to publisher sites has steadily declined by 53% since July. Additionally, Twitter now outpaces Stumbleupon’s share of traffic by .22%. StumbleUpon recently unveiled a new site design and Pinterest-like “lists” feature which enables content consumers to curate collections of articles they enjoy – but publishers will still have to see if this results in click-throughs and traffic directly to their sites.
A traffic decrease of 50% in three months is quite drastic. I used to like StumbleUpon a lot, but haven’t used it in years. What about you?
Anyway make sure to check the full report as it has a bunch of other data and insights. If you are in a hurry, here are the key points:
  • Google obviously leads the referrals list
  • Facebook is the third, after direct traffic
  • Pinterest is fourth
  • Visitors coming from Pinterest are 10x more likely to buy
  • Despite being first the number of visitors coming from Google declined a bit

The Do’s and Don’ts of Guest Posting for Major Blogs

What do Mashable.com, BusinessInsider.com and Huffington Post all have in common? For one, each blog captures thousands of unique visitors and tens of thousands of page views in a single day. Second, they all accept contributions from guest authors, creating the potential to drive massive amounts of traffic to your website with just a single guest post.
But there’s got to be a catch. You’ve probably got to be a big name blogger with a huge audience like ProBlogger.com’s Darren Rowse to be eligible for publication on major blogs like that… Right?

No Name? No Audience? No Problem.

Believe it or not, you need neither name nor audience to get published. I used to think you did until I began to look more critically at the bylines of the writers listed on authority websites like BusinessInsider.com, currently listed in the top 500 most popular websites on the internet according to Alexa.
What did I discover upon closer examination? BusinessInsider.com publishes a lot of content from guest authors, most of which is from unkown writers you would not know, don’t have audience or fancy qualifications like an advanced degree from a prestigious school.
Best of all, these websites need a lot of regular outside contributions from guest writers. How much? Enough to dedicate a category
of the website just to content exclusively provided by writers/bloggers referred to as “Contributors”. None of the writer’s listed here are on the BusinessInsider.com payroll.
So if you don’t need a big name or any specific qualifications to contribute to these major blogs, what’s preventing you or me from getting our content published on behemoth blogs like this? That’s the question I posed to three regular contributors of BusinessInsider.com–Frank Gullo of RavenWeb.net, Hillel Fuld of TechnMarketing.com, and Sudy Bharadwaj of JackalopeJobs.com–to get a sense of what the average blogger/marketer should do to be considered for publication on a major blog.
While you’re probably not familiar with the writing or names of the writers I interviewed for this piece, collectively these three have been published on the biggest blogs with names you do know including the Huffington Post, Mashable and Gigom in addition to BusinessInsider.com.

What separates these guys from the rest of us?

I emailed each of these gentlemen to pick their brains and get advice on how they were each able to be featured on these blogs. Fortunately, for me (and you) they were generous with their expertise and provided a simple outline of do’s and don’ts that if followed greatly increases your odds of getting published on these sites.
Interestingly, but not surprisingly, each of the blogger’s I interviewed shared creepily similar recommendations for getting content published. There do’s and don’ts have been summarized below and edited slightly for readability purposes:
When submitting guest content to major blogs, do the following:
Read and Follow Submission Guidelines to the Letter: Big blogs have much stricter requirements for what they can and can’t publish. Make sure the content you submit to these blogs aligns with posts that are regularly published by the blog both in content and style. Many of these blogs provide information about how to submit guest posts or contributions on a contact or contributor page.
In the case of becoming a contributor to BusinessInsider.com, all you need to do is to submit an email (contributor@businessinsider.com)
stating that you’re interested in writing for them.
Respect the Editor’s Time: When you submit guest posts to major blogs, they’ll need to be reviewed by an editor or writer before they can be published. Again, make sure you have formatted your posts correctly, do not have any spelling errors, and provided a high-quality piece of content that can be published. The more time an editor must spend rewriting your post, the less likely it is to be published.
Keep Communication Short: This related to the previous point. Don’t write long emails explaining your story ideas to editors or your career highlights. Keep pitches concise and to the point.
Be Persistent: The folks that work at these blogs are extremely busy and being emailed, Tweeted, and instant messaged by people just like you all day, every day. As a result, it’s typical that at some point your message could be forgotten about or looked over. If an editor doesn’t respond to your request after 5 – 7 days feel free to send them a reminder. If you still don’t get a response, move on and try contacting a different blog or editor.
When submitting content to major blogs, don’t do the following:
Don’t miss a Deadline: This is a deal breaker for most editors. If you say you’re going to get an article out
to them by January, 17th, stick to it. Miss one deadline and you won’t get a second chance with many editors.
Don’t complain if you’re article is rejected: Believe it or not, even strong writers have their content rejected from time to time. If you’re article is rejected, simply ask how you can improve it or suggest writing a new article on a different topic. If you believe the rejected article is valuable, you can always submit it somewhere else later.
Don’t Pester Editors: While you need to be consistent and occasionally send followup emails regarding the status of a post, don’t be a pain. Do not contact editors via social media daily much less hourly. A good rule of thumb is to provide at least 5 – 7 business days of breathing room between messages to an editor.
While you may not need a big name to contribute to today’s most popular websites, you will need to closely follow the editorial guidelines of each particular website and stick to the do’s and don’ts outlined in this article to get published on the biggest blogs.
