While Apple remains mum on a iPhone 5successor, its thought to be an iPhone 5Sutilizing the same design as the iPhone 5, but introducing new hardware. Apple is also rumored to be working on a large screen iPhone with an iPhone 6 in 2014 thought to be a strong candidate for the upgrade. We likely won’t see a large screen iPhone 6 any time soon, but a new iPhone 5.7 concept shows what a large iPhone might look like running iOS 7.
At WWDC 2013, Apple, as expected, focused on software. At the developer conference, the company introduced both its new OS X Mavericks operating system and the new iOS 7 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Both operating systems will be coming later this year.
What Apple didn’t announce however was new mobile hardware, skipping an iPhone announcement once again. The company is expected to introduce a new iPhone later on this year with an iPhone 5S launch rumored for September. The device is said to be an incremental update to the iPhone 5 with Apple utilizing the same design as the iPhone 5 while attaching upgrades like a new camera and processor.
There are also rumors of a large iPhone swirling, both for 2013 and 2014, with the iPhone 6 in 2014 the most likely candidate for a significant change to the device’s display. If true, it likely means that consumers will have to wait a year or more before seeing a large screen iPhone arrive. At least officially.
Designers and Apple enthusiasts are hard at work on their own large screen iPhone designs and today, an iPhone 5.7 concept has emerged, a device that blends the iPhone 6 rumors with Apple’s new iOS 7 software.
The concept was created by T3 and it shows an iPhone utilizing a full HD 5.7-inch display, just a shade under the size of the rumored Samsung Galaxy Note 3′s 5.9-inch display. The display also eliminates most of the bezel making for an edge-to-edge display. We also see the home button intact.
The iPhone 5.7 is also running an A7 chip, a chip that could replace the current A6X at some point in the future. As for the design, it’s similar to the iPhone 5 yet slims down a bit to 7.6mm. The iPhone 5 is 7.9mm thin.
This may not be what Apple comes out with in the future but it does offer a glimpse at what a larger iPhone 5 or even iPhone 5S could look like if one were to arrive on shelves.
