Sony has had a long history of trying to bring smartwatches to market. Between 2010 and 2012, Sony released a few SmartWatch branded devices that didn't quite make an impression with consumers, likely because of a thin feature set and high price tag. But, it looks like the release of the Pebble, and the rumors of smartwatches being developed by Google, Apple, and Microsoft have given Sony courage to try again before the rush.
Sony has sent out a couple of tweets teasing a new SmartWatch that it will be showing off at the Mobile Asia Expo, which will be taking place next week June 26th to the 28th in Shanghai. The first tweet cites a statistic from BI Intelligence that says "1/3 smartphone users want smart wrist wear", and the second tweet actually shows off what looks to be the last SmartWatch released last year.
No word on what to expect from the Sony SmartWatch, but we'll be looking out for the news.
