All-new Duster-based Nissan Terrano revealed in sketches

Nissan Terrano 1

Almost every car enthusiast would be familiar of the Terrano moniker, an off-road capable mid-size SUV from Nissan, that was offered during the 90’s and early 2000’s, and which is still not entirely extinct. It was later taken off the production lines, giving way for the newer range of Nissan SUVs. However, the Japanese automaker now intends to bring the nameplate back beginning with the Indian market, although in the form of a Renualt Duster-based soft-roader, competing with the likes of Ford Ecosport, and has even divulged the official sketches.
Rumour has it that the difference between the Duster and the Terrano will be mostly cosmetic, but the Terrano may boast better interior materials and features. There is no word on the engine variants, but if reports are to be believed, the Terrano is set to share the powertrain options with the Duster, which will be the 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine, and quite possibly, even the globally available 2.0-litre and 1.6-litre petrol engines, mated to a 4-speed automatic or, a choice of 5-speed and 6-speed manual gearboxes, in two-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations. The rest of the mechanical setup will be the same too, in both the vehicles. So in short, the all-new Terrano will be a Duster-clone underneath the metal sheet, even if it tries to look different on the outside.
The all-new Terrano is slated to go on sale in India, by the end of this year. It is unclear whether this model will be offered elsewhere, but it may only be a matter of time before we get to see the Nissan Terrano in its new iteration, and sharing some of the popularity the Duster gets, in this part of the world.
