Yes, we have been passing along the rumored specs for what is supposed to be the most powerful BlackBerry ever, the BlackBerry A10 Aristo. And while we have been pretty harsh on the Canadian manufacturer regarding the 2011-2012 specs on what is supposed to be a 2013-2014 flagship phone, we really had been hoping that perhaps the specs that had been rumored were all wrong. After all, how is BlackBerry going to compete in a world full of Android flagships with 5 inch 1080 x 1920 resolution screens, that are powered by quad-core processors and 13MP rear shooters?
On Monday evening, a confidential BlackBerry document was released, revealing the specs for the A10. Yes, the device will be the first BlackBerry model to hit the 5 inch screen threshold. But the 720 x 1280 resolution results in a 296ppi pixel density, far off the 443ppi scored by those 5 inch screens with 1080 x 1920 FHD resolution. The 2GB of RAM breaks no new ground here, and the 16GB of native storage can be expanded using a 64GB capacity hot-swappable microSD card.
In an era when the camera on back of a smartphone can make or break a sale, the 8MP snapper on the rear of the BlackBerry A10 doesn't seem like it would be competition for other handsets. There is a 2MP front-facing shooter and a 2800mAh battery will keep the lights on. We should note that the phone does support NFC and will come out of the box with BlackBerry 10.2 which means it will support some Android apps like Facebook Home. And under the hood is a dual-core 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8960 Pro.
The phone is due in November and so far, it has been confirmed by Sprint according to one report. But that doesn't mean that we won't see it on other carriers.
