Since the Galaxy S4 is the current star of Samsung’s Android line-up and Note 3’s launch is around the corner, it’s a little weird to see a GNote 2 clone being launched only now. But hey, some phones are just like wines, getting better with age, so we shouldn’t mind.
The number one problem with the Karbonn Titanium S9 is that it’s pricey. For a copycat, at least. It’s set to sell for INR 19,990 in India, which is roughly 330 US bucks. True, the Note 2 costs about twice as much, but the first-gen Note doesn’t.
And the thing is, while the S9 resembles the Note 2 a lot on the outside (read: bluntly steals design elements from it), the internals are more on-par with the 2011 Note’s specs.
The 1.2 GHz quad-core MT6589 CPU is no Speedy Gonzales, the 1 GB of RAM is run of the mill by 2013 standards, as are the 16 GB of on-board storage. Even the 2,600 mAh battery can be called mediocre, being just 100 mAh bigger than the one inside the first-gen Note.
On the bright side, Karbonn’s big guy does come with a high-quality 13 MP rear camera in tow, plus a 5 MP snapper on the front and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. As for the display, that’s generous in size (5.5 inches), but not so much in resolution (1,280 x 720 pixels).
In conclusion, there’s not much else to say but this: Karbonn, slash it or forget about it. The price and the phone’s hit potential, that is. As for you possible adopters of this thing, remember to consider the Gionee E6 and iBerry Auxus Nuclea N1 before making your decision. The two might not look like stars at first, but they come with far better specs. And ultimately, that’s what counts the most, is it not?
