As Nexus 7 2 rumors continue, so do deals on Google’s current Nexus 7 tablet with the latest deal dropping the price of the Nexus 7 all the way down $149 for the 16GB model and $249 for the 32GB Nexus 7.
For months, rumors have indicated that Google and Asus are planning a sequel to their popular Nexus 7 tablet, a sequel that is currently dubbed Nexus 7 2, Nexus 7 HD and new Nexus 7. While the details are still unconfirmed, rumors suggest that the Nexus 7 2 will make a debut sometime in late July or early August with a 7-inch high-resolution display, quad-core processor of the Snapdragon 600 variety, 4G LTE data, 5MP rear camera and the new Android 4.3 update.
And while the device remains unconfirmed, it’s clear that retailers are expecting something new to touch down. In the past few days, we’ve seen deals on the Nexus 7 arrive through the likes of Staples and Office Depot and now, we’re seeing an unprecedented low for the Nexus 7.
Thanks to Slickdeals, courtesy of Android Police, we know that Staples is currently hosting a massive deal on the Nexus 7 that allows buyers to drop the price of the 16GB Nexus 7 all the way down to $150 and the Nexus 7 32GB down to a mere $170. Both are great prices especially for a device that was released last year. The deals, however, should be avoided.
As we’ve pointed out numerous times, the Nexus 7 is a great device and after it receives Android 4.3, an update that hopeful will tackle many of its bugs, it should be much better. However, shoppers would be smart to avoid these deals as they are popping up with what appears to be only a few weeks to go before the Nexus 7 2 launch.
For one, the Nexus 7 2 is expected to retain a cheap price tag starting between $199 and $250 and considering the likely upgrades, including the display, buyers would be better served waiting a few weeks for its arrival. Once it arrives, consumers can then decide between the two devices. And if the Nexus 7 wins out, there will more than likely still be deals on the older model as retailers look to clear stock to make way for the Nexus 7 2.
Saving money is fantastic but with the Nexus 7 2 launch looking imminent and deals on the Nexus 7 likely going nowhere, buyers would be wise to keep their money tucked away for a few more weeks.
