The Samsung Galaxy S4 that went on sale in the United States a few weeks ago commands a $199.99 or $250 price at most carriers coming in black or white with a fake metal band. For those with a little bit of money to spend, there is another other option: A $2200 Samsung Galaxy S4 from GoldGenie that comes with either a 24ct. Gold, Rose Gold or Platinum band.
Buying a smartphone is an expensive endeavor. First, a buyer must pay an up front price, whether it’s a down payment or a subsidized price with a new contract. Then, the buyer must pay monthly installments for the phone, monthly installments for a data plan or both. Before the end of a contract or a device’s life cycle, smartphone owners pay well over $1000 dollars for their device.
For those that can spend more than that, GoldGenie is offering Gold, Platinum and Rose Gold plated Samsung Galaxy S4 models that command a hefty up front cost, in addition to the costs that will likely be incurred in the months to come.
For $2200, buyers in the United States can pick up a Samsung Galaxy S4 that comes with a customized rim that is made of those three aforementioned materials. To top it off, GoldGenie will throw in a Luxury Cherry Oak Finished Box for the device to be stored in. Whether or not the phone will be activated is up to the user, of course.
Users have a choice between the black and white models, the same color schemes available on non-$2200 Galaxy S4 models.
The device, besides the ring, is the same Samsung Galaxy S4 that appeared on shelves just a few weeks ago. That means that it comes with a 5-inch 1080p display, quad-core processor, 13MP camera, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, and Samsung’s new smart features.
The precious metals don’t appear to add any extra bulk to the Galaxy S4 though we imagine that they could add some extra weight. GoldGenie isn’t clear on the matter. Something else that isn’t clear is why a normal person would spend $2200 on a smartphone.
