iPad 5: Case Leak Video Claims to Show New Design

A new iPad 5 case leak video appears to show the new thinner and narrower iPad 5 design we expect to see later this year.
This isn’t the first iPad 5 leak to show off what is likely the new look for Apple’s upcoming full size iPad, but it is the first to come from a source known for sharing reliable Apple details far ahead of launch.
All sources are pointing to an iPad 5 that looks a lot like a larger iPad mini, and the new case leak backs this up with a comparison to the iPad 4.
Vietnamese site, Tinhte.vnshared the iPad 5 case in a video that has since been made private, butAppleInsider still offers several photos of the alleged iPad 5 case video.
This case allegedly shows the iPad 5 design is thinner, narrower and shorter.

The alleged iPad 5 case photos show a case that is designed for a narrower and shorter iPad. When compared to an iPad 4, the case is slightly shorter and appears to grip onto an iPad mini like side design with a camera closer to the corner. The iPad 5 will reportedly feature narrower bezels to allow for a smaller overall size without giving up the 9.7-inch Retina Display.
The case appears to feature a small opening on the back to accommodate a rear-facing microphone.
This report lines up with many other iPad 5 leaks, including a photo that allegedly shows the front panel of the white iPad 5. Another purported iPad 5 case appeared at a trade show in April, with a design that appears to match the leak from Tinhte.vn.

Two separate rumors point to a thinner and lighter iPad 5. In April, well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported that the iPad 5 design will deliver an iPad that is 25% lighter and 15% thinner than the iPad 4. A DigiTimes rumor in May claims thinner glass and new manufacturing techniques will allow Apple to deliver an iPad 5 that is 25-33% lighter than the iPad 4. This report claimed production could start in July.
Tinhte.vn boasts a good track record with Apple rumors, showing off a prototype iPhone in 2011 and providing a full hands on with the iPad 3 ahead of the announcement in early 2012.
The iPad 5 release is expected this fall, and is likely to arrive after the iPhone 5S launch according to multiple rumors. The latest rumors from Macotakara claims the iPad 5 will arrive later this year, not alongside the iPhone 5S, but did not mention the iPad mini 2. A report from Citi claims the iPad 5 launch is set for October.
