Samsung finally confirmed the arrival of the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini, a smaller variant of the company’s Galaxy S4.
The Galaxy S4 mini which had been rumored to be in development since around the announcement of the Galaxy S4, pairs down many of Samsung’s flagship features in the interest of creating a device the company profiles as being “highly portable, chic and compact”.
Internals include a 1.7 GHz dual-core processor and a 4.3 gHD Super AMOLED screen. Camera optics are slightly more modest than that of the 13 megapixel camera found on the Galaxy S4, the Galaxy S4 mini features a 1.9 megapixel front-facing camera and an 8 megapixel rear facing camera for taking photos.
Samsung didn’t skimp on connection standards, in addition to the Wi-Fi and LTE depending on carrier availability, this device will also ship with Bluetooth 4.0 compatibility and NFC for those who purchase a version that is compatible with next generation LTE data networks like the ones available on Verizon and AT&T.
Samsung has also seen fit to keep the Galaxy S4’s IR sensor so that users can use the Galaxy S4 mini to control their television and other home theater components using the company’s WatchOn app for Android. Many of the Galaxy S4’s other software enhancements will make their way to the Galaxy S4 mini like S Heal, which allows users to track their calorie intake and allow the device to be used as a pedometer. These software features will run on Android 4.2 “Jelly Bean” just as on the Galaxy S4.
