Oppo Find 5’s follow-up, likely called Find 7 (no idea what happened with the 6), is back in the rumor mill, following a month of peace and quiet. The thing is even more impressive than before, being tipped to pack a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor and… 4,000 mAh battery.
While the Snapdragon 800 powering is not surprising (droolworthy, but not surprising), that whopping battery sounds like something that could really give Oppo an edge on the competition.
As you may have noticed, modest tickers incapable of running for more than a day’s work between charges are the Achilles’ heel of most high-end smartphones today. For instance, the Samsung Galaxy S4 only packs a 2,600 mAh battery, while HTC One’s is even smaller, at 2,300 mAh.
Meanwhile, not even Oppo’s current heavyweight contender, the Find 5, can’t knock our socks off with its autonomy, featuring a smallish 2,500 mAh battery. With all that in mind, how would we best describe a 5-inch phone with a 4,000 mAh ticker? Simple, as a game-changer.
And yes, such a massive battery would probably add a little bulk to Oppo’s next-gen flagship, but the key word there is “little”. Just look at Lenovo’s P780, which packs a similar 4,000 mAh battery and is still fairly sleek, weighing in at 178 grams and measuring 9.9 mm in thickness.
Okay, enough about the battery already, because that’s not the only thing that makes a phone stand out. Fortunately, if rumors are to be trusted, the Find 7 will be destined for greatness from basically every standpoint.
It will reportedly sport a 5-inch 1,920 x 1,080 pix res (aka Full HD) display, it will have 2 gigs of RAM to go nice with that Snapdragon 800 chipset, plus 32 GB of internal memory (likely no microSD support, though), NFC, Android 4.2 or above, a 13 MP rear snapper and, last but not least, an 8 MP front cam. I hate repeating myself, but that sounds like a game-changer to me.
The reported ETA is September, and, while there are no words on pricing yet, I think Samsung, HTC, LG and Sony should start being afraid. Now if only Oppo would be able to make the Find 7 available on a global scale…
