We know Google now owns Waze, but the app and service still remains the best social mapping service in the world, and it seems the app is still heading to Windows Phone, with the closed beta progressing well.
Reader MS is part of the beta, and shared some information about the app on Windows Phone.
He notes the team has made some effort to make the appMetro and fit in with the Windows Phone user interface. The app allows users to search addresses, points of interest, and will provide information such as gas prices from various sources such as Google and Bing.
For navigation the app offers a daytime/ night time mode, the ability to avoid toll roads, fastest/shortest routing, a speedometer and more.
Most importantly the user is able to report issues such as speed cameras on the road or leave location-based comments. You can report a traffic jam (moderate/heavy/standstill), alert for police, report an accident (minor/major), hazards (on the road, shoulder, weather) and cameras (speed, red light, fake). For all but the camera’s you can attach a picture. You can also see the location of other Waze users.
Our informant notes the app is good, but that Nokia Maps still offers a better user interface.
