The Ubuntu Community Manager, Jono Bacon, posted a fresh 10 minute tour of the progress that has been made for the Ubuntu Phone.
So far, he has been using this Galaxy Nexus as his daily driver for a couple weeks and takes us on a tour of some of the basic features in action, like the phone interface and how SMS is handled. We are also given an overview of the user experience with the weather application and multitasking between apps. All the running apps can be viewed in the “apps” screen.
We also get to see the browser in action as well. What is also interesting is social network integration with the platform. It is a social media view which provides a converged timeline of networks like Twitter or Facebook, not unlike the way Windows Phone provides a linear feed of activity.
Ubuntu Touch is not yet being optimized for certain performance parameters which can be seen by the hardware slowing things down a little, but for a beta-ish build the experience looks remarkably smooth. We are definitely interested in seeing how this develops and what it will ultimately bring to the table once it launches.
