Sony Xperia ZU (Togari) specs leak

Sony Xperia ZU (Togari) specs leakNo sooner had the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 settled in for a long reign as the largest screened handset, then along came the Sony Xperia ZU. With a 6.44 inch glass, this phone could very well close out 2013 as the largest screened smartphone. At the same time, the Sony Xperia ZU will be challenging theSamsung Galaxy Note III and the HTC T6 (its codename, for now) in the phablet niche. Will the Xperia ZU gain a little bit of an edge due to the fact that like theSony Xperia Z, the Xperia ZU will be water and dust resistant? The device is penciled in to be introduced at Sony's June 25th press event.

We expect to see the Sony ZU equipped with a 6.44 inch 1080 x 1920 resolution screen. The display uses the Triluminous technology for a bright picture. X-Reality technology for mobile is included as it is next in line after the Bravia 3 engine. Under the hood will be a quad-core 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor. Back and front-facing snappers weigh in at 8MP and 2.2MP respectively. We should point out that the shooter on the rear is using the Exmor RS sensor.

While we're doing this, we should take a moment to discuss the new display which uses Neonode’s MultiSensing technology to allow any object to be used as an input for the screen. A demonstration of this technology can be viewed on the video below. Android 4.2 is running the show, and this is all wrapped up in a package just 6.5mm thin. Will the Sony Xperia ZU be able to make the phablet battle a three-device race?Certainly, without a U.S. carrier to nurture the model, market it correctly, and offer a subsidized price, the Sony Xperia ZU is going to find it an uphill battle to compete in the states.
