It’s pretty much a known fact by now that Sony is planning to intro the Xperia ZU (Z Ultra) during the Munich press event of tomorrow, but if we are to believe newly emerged rumors the big guy will not be the only new gadget in the spotlight.
An Xperia C could also be unveiled 24 hours from now (this one in Shanghai) so as to make the alphabet soup that is Sony’s smartphone family even tougher to understand. Nobody’s complaining though, because this C fellow (previously known as C3 or CN3) will likely be a mid-ranger with a large screen and budget-conscious price point and the tech world is still in great need of those.
Just don’t expect the Xperia C to blow you away with its speed. According to a trusted source close to Xperia Blog, the phone will be powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core MediaTek processor. Four cores usually mean plenty of oomph, but MTK CPUs are mostly known and praised for their power-saving potential. Their performance, not so much.
Xperia C’s display is not shaping up to be spectacular either, but again, it will be large, measuring 5 inches in diagonal and I know most of you like their phones big. The resolution is tipped as qHD (960 x 540 pix res) by Xperia Blog, but 720p is also a possibility, voiced by GizChina less than a week ago.
The MediaTek chipset will most likely be paired with 1 gig of RAM, there will only be 4 GB of internal memory, plus microSD support, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and an 8 MP rear camera with an Exmor R sensor. Not too shabby for a phone in its price range, right?
By the way, the rumored price point is 2000 Yuan in China, which is roughly $320. China in particular and Asia in general are said to be Sony’s primary targets with the Xperia C, but a Europe release is definitely in the cards also. Then again, I wouldn’t hold my breath for a US launch. Time to wrap this up, but be sure to check back with us tomorrow.
