Vice President of Production for the Call of Duty franchise Daniel Suarez recently spoke about the innovations introduced in Call of Duty: Ghosts, which is releasing for both current and next generation consoles.
“First and foremost, innovation is what drives this game…as players ourselves, we’re always trying to say ‘what is the game we want to play – what are the things that we want to do?’ And I think we have these liberties with Call of Duty – especially this year now that we’re creating this sub-franchise with Ghosts – to be able to introduce our new set of characters.”
Suarez brings up Riley to further that point. “We’ve announced Riley, he’s the Call of Duty dog and there’s been a lot of fanfare behind him on the Internet and Twitter and everything else. He creates a new gameplay dynamic where you can interact with the dog. He can kind of find out enemies that are hiding. He can alert you to dangers sort-of approaching.”
Infinity Ward has already shown off how Riley can be utilized, with a camera on his back that allows players to see things from his perspective. This is inspired by what real Navy SEALs trainers use. “They actually have these cool dog vests that they put on that actually have cameras on the back that allow you to see what’s going on within the environment. So you are in control of the dog, but he’s sort of acting on his own AI. It’s a great sort of unique way to the diversity of the gameplay,” he said to News10.

Call of Duty: Ghosts will release on November 5th 2013.
