Speaking to Russia Today, Snowden’s lawyer says that the NSA whistleblower plans to live and work in Russia and is ready to file an appeal should courts deny his asylum application.
Edward Snowden might not be getting a tan after all.
Speaking to Russia Today, Anatoly Kucherena, Snowden’s lawyer, said that his client is preparing to settle down in Russia.
“He’s planning to arrange his life here. He plans to get a job. And, I think, that all his further decisions will be made considering the situation he found himself in,” Kucherena said to RT.
“I think the process of adaptation will take some time. It’s an understandable process as he doesn’t know the Russian language, our customs, and our laws,” he added.
Snowden will be free to leave the transit zone of Moscow’s airport once his lawyer receives a certificate stating that his asylum application has been received as is being processed. Should Snowden be granted asylum, it will be for one year and will be renewable indefinitely.
Vladimir Putin has repeatedly expressed his annoyance that Snowden has ended up in Moscow, as Putin believes a successful asylum bid will chill US-Russian relations.
