Consumer Intelligence Research Partners, a U.S. research firm, today released iPhone sales states of the U.S. market. The data reveals that more people are buying previous generation iPhones as opposed to the current iPhone 5, because they are cheaper. Apple’s low cost iPhone can very well cater to this huge potential demand.
Time and again we have heard rumors of a low cost iPhone being released by Apple. The company itself is yet to confirm these plans, but over the past few weeks there have been a lot of rumors and leaks related to the low cost iPhone, sometimes referred to as the iPhone Lite. This device is expected to be released alongside iPhone 5S this September.
Nine months after its release, the iPhone 5 accounts for 52 percent of iPhone sales in the U.S in this quarter. Whereas the iPhone 4S accounts for an impressive 30 percent of all iPhones sold. In third place is the fairly obsolete iPhone 4 which accounted for 18 percent of all sales. Analysts believe that this trend is indicative of a potential demand of a low cost iPhone that costs between $200-$300. This is exactly the price point that has been rumored for this device.
The low cost iPhone is said to have a plastic rear shell, so as to keep costs down. It is supposedly going to have modest internal specifications, presumably similar to those of the iPhone 4S. This particular iPhone is expected to be available in a variety of color options, as as been depicted by various leaked pictures.
