PlayStation 4 Passes Through FCC For Holiday Release

The Sony PlayStation 4 isn’t scheduled for release until sometime this holiday season, but Sony’s next generation already gained the approval of the FCC, clearing the way for the PS4 release.
The FCC certification for the new console shows a sketch of the black rectangular prism that is the PlayStation 4 and confirms some specs of the new console. Specifically, the documentation says the AMD Jaguar processor inside the PlayStation 4 can reach top speeds of 2.75GHz, which will help the console push impressive graphics for its new games.

According to the documentation Sony makes the PlayStation 4 in China and Japan, which likely means that Sony has manufacturing plants for the new console in both countries. That may help the company produce a large number of units for the first shipment. Despite that, Amazon and GameStop already halted pre-orders for the Launch Edition of the PlayStation 4, though other retailers continue to offer pre-orders.
The PlayStation 4 will come to store shelves sometime this holiday season for $399.99. Sony hasn’t announced an exact PS4 release date yet, though a release before Black Friday is likely. The company may release the PS4 before the Xbox One, which has a November release window, or it may come shortly thereafter.

At launch the PlayStation 4 will have a number of exclusive games including Knack, Killzone: Shadow Fall and Drive Club. Sometime after launch, in the first quarter of 2014, Sony will release the new Infamous: Second Son for the PS4. Sony also put a big emphasis on independent games on the PlayStation 4 with games like Transistor, Octodad and Don’t Starve coming exclusively to the console.
The PS4 will also launch with a number of third-party multiplatform games. Those games includeWatch Dogs, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Need For Speed: Rivals, Battlefield 4 and Assassin’s Creed IV.
Sony’s new console will include a number of unique features including the ability to stream games from the console to the PlayStation Vita.
