All Samsung Galaxy S4 devices support MTP and Media transfer modes for files between the smartphone and computers. In this post you will find info on how to successfully enable the USB Mass Storage for the Samsung Galaxy S4 devices.
The USB Mass Storage is a much faster method that you can use to move files between your Galaxy S4 and your computer. As you know the MTP feature is slow and not always working as you would expect it to. There is an app that is capable of enabling UMS transfer function for your devices but, for it to work, you will need a rooted device.
The application that you will use is the SG USB Mass Storage Enabler from Google Play Store. For it to work, the Galaxy S4 device needs to have BusyBox installed on it as otherwise the computer won’t be allowed to read the contents of your smartphone.
SG USB Mass Storage Enabler tool works with various models of the Samsung Galaxy S4 like the GT I9500Exynos 5 Octa, GT I9505 Snapdragon 600, AT&T SGH I337, T-Mobile US SGH M919, SGH I337M Canada model. Besides the Galaxy S4 models, the app is supported on Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 I9300, too.
NOTE: The internal SDcard won’t be supported by this application as it cannot be mounted. It has support for exFAT, FAT32 and microSD external storage drivers. In order to work, your device has to be rooted.
Make sure that your computer has the Samsung USB Drivers installed on it.
Here’s how to enable the USB Mass Storage for your Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphone:
- Go to Google Play Store web page of SG USB Mass Storage Enabler here.
- Install the application.
- When the install is complete, launch SG USB Mass Storage Enabler.
- Connect your Galaxy S4 with your PC via USB data cable.
- Tap on the ‘Mass Storage Mode’ button that’s shown on the main app menu.
- Grant root access for this app when asked for it.
- That’s it, now you can easily transfer files between your Galaxy S4 external SDcard and your computer.
These were all the steps that you had to take in order to successfully enable the USB Mass Storage for your Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphone. If you’re having problems completing the tutorial or the application doesn’t work, then you should ask for extra help in comments.
Make sure that your Samsung Galaxy S4 is rooted and supported by the SG USB Mass Storage Enabler before trying to move any data files.
