A new press invite image by Sony reveals what looks to be the Xperia Z Ultra. Here’s our analysis.
Translation: “Sony Mobile reserves a big surprise for you“
A few days ago we had reported that Sony will reveal the long rumored Xperia Z Ultra (ZU) aka Togari phablet in a press event slated for June 25. In the past, we had also reported that the Xperia ZU will indeed be water and dust proof. However, a new press invite image for a July 4th event in Paris has come to light that paints a totally different picture.
If the bad news of the alleged announcement of Sony’s first ever phablet being pushed back by as many as 10 days isn’t bad enough, the image reveals a slim phone and writing done with a stylus, leaving us no doubts about it anymore. Although we are excited that the stylus support is indeed for real, close inspection of the phone’s side reveals some interesting facts.
Fact #1 – The Xperia ZU may not end up being water-resistant (or dust resistant for that matter). Why? Because the headphone jack on the right edge of the phone has been left uncovered. How do we know that it’s the right edge? Keeping in mind Sony’s 2013 power design and layout, the power and volume rocker buttons is placed on the right edge.
UPDATE
Togari and Honami will come with IP58 certification and that the audio jacks will indeed not have any flaps. So for those who were waiting for a dust and water resistant phablet, don’t lose hope yet.
Fact #2 – The Xperia ZU will indeed be a ridiculously large (6.44-inch) but insanely thin (6.5mm) monster.
