Publisher Rockstar Games announced on Tuesday via Twitter that Max Payne 3, its popular
third-person shooter video game developed by Rockstar Studios, will land 20 June on the Mac App Store.
As the third title in the Max Payne franchise, it originally released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in May 2012 and for Microsoft Windows in June 2012. The game essentially allows players to become the main character, Max Payne, as he moves to São Paulo to protect a wealthy family in an effort to "finally escape his troubled past."
The title's gameplay notably features over-the-shoulder camera shots and run-and-gun style sequences.
There are no specifics from Rockstar regarding pricing for the upcoming Mac iteration, but Rockstar said it will sport "cutting edge shooting mechanics for precision gunplay, advanced new Bullet Time and Shootdodge effects, full integration of Natural Motion’s Euphoria Character Behavior system for lifelike movement and a dark and twisted story".
Max Payne 3 for Mac will also offer multi-monitor support and 3D capability. It requires Mac OS X 10.7.5 Lion, an Intel Dual Core Xeon / Core i Series 2.4 GHZ or greater, NVIDIA 8800GT 512MB VRAM or AMD Radeon HD 4870 512 VRAM, as well as 4GB of RAM and 35GB of HDD space.
