If you don’t know what WhatsApp is, then you’ve probably been living under a rock. Its probably the most widely used cross platform messaging service out there. There are native WhatsApp applications for a variety of platforms, so much so that the service has more than 250 million monthly active users from around the world. Despite Apple’s native iMessage service, WhatsApp remains the go-to IM service for a vast majority of iOS owners.
Today’s update brings the version number up to 2.10.1. As previously mentioned, it brings a couple of new features. WhatsApp for iOS now allows users to backup their chat history to iCloud. History can also be restored from iCloud if such a need arises. The app now backs up media as well, except videos. Backups can be initiated by going to the settings menu in the app, followed by Chat Settings and Chat Backup. The update also brings ability to send multiple photos to a contact in a chat at the same time, greatly improves photo sharing experience on the service. Last but not the least, URL schema support has been added for third party apps.
The updated WhatsApp for iOS is now available for download from iTunes App store.
