Facebook unveils Vine-killer with Video for Instagram

Facebook has finally unveiled the much hyped Vine rival dubbed as “Video for Instagram” during the press conference in California. This news did not come as a surprise as it was all over the internet as soon as the event invites reached the press.instagram-iosVideo for Instagram allows users to record short videos of up to 15 seconds by tapping on the movie camera icon when you tap on the take photo icon. The application includes 13 exclusive filters that can be added to your videos. You can also select your favorite scene from the video and use it as a cover image. In addition to filters, the company also added an automatic stabilization feature known as Cinema, that currently works on iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 only (for now). Once published, the video will appear on your main Instagram feed.
According to Instagram Founder, Kevin Systrom,
Over the past two and a half years, Instagram has become a community where you can capture and share the world’s moments simply and beautifully. Some moments, however, need more than a static image to come to life. Until now these stories have been missing from Instagram.
Today, we’re thrilled to introduce Video on Instagram and bring you another way to share your stories.
The applications for iOS and Android have been updated already but there is no word about the application for the desperate Windows Phone users. However, Systrom did mention that the company is considering bringing the application to Windows Phone but nothing is confirmed yet.
Facebook has been struggling lately to get success with other products like Facebook Home app. The application did manage to get a worthy number of downloads but the overall rating of the application remained low as users complained that the application took too much control of their devices. This is something many users may not prefer.
In case of Instagram, I think the situation is completely different compared to Facebook Home. I personally use Instagram, and a feature like this would definitely come in handy when you want to create short videos and share them with your loved ones. Check out the video below to see Video for Instagram in action. What do you think about Video for Instagram? Will it be able to give a touch competition to Vine or bite the dust as the previous Facebook products?
